Biography
War machine
By the time that the Galactic Civil War was occurring, Sorin was serving the Galactic Empire's armed forces, and had achieved the military rank of general. In the months preceding the Battle of Hoth, Sorin supervised the creation of an upgraded version of the Scout-class 2-M repulsor tank, known as the Mark III Repulsor Tank. Sorin established a base on the planet Cholganna where he ran tests on a new deflector shield system for his tanks. The shield system showed promise in these tests, proving effective against standard weaponry; however, it consumed too much power. Sorin hoped that once this issue was resolved, the technology could be implemented in other vehicles and starfighters. He also conducted successful weapons tests at a facility on the planet Aleen, which bolstered his confidence that production could begin soon. He kept track of his progress in data logs on his shuttle's computer.
Rebels on Hoth
After the Battle of Hoth, Sorin was sent to the planet with orders to eliminate the remaining rebel forces who were left behind after the evacuation. He set up his base of operations in Echo Base and deployed patrols across the desolate landscape of Hoth to find rebels, using his new Mark III Repulsor Tank for practical testing. In his eagerness to prove his worth to the Empire, Sorin offered a reward for rebel survivors to encourage their extermination. This reward attracted the attention of the bounty hunter Dengar, who intended to claim the bounty offered by Sorin.
Several days following the Battle of Hoth, while Sorin was reprimanding one of his captains inside the hangar where he kept his shuttle, a group of rebels managed to enter the hangar through a tunnel. Sorin ordered the captain to take his men and search the tunnels, and as they moved towards the tunnels, they noticed the rebel squad. As the squad fought off the snowtrooper captain and his men, the engines of Sorin's shuttle began to ignite. Unbeknownst to Sorin, while he was scolding the captain, two rebels, Lieutenant Talcon and Corporal Kish, had secretly boarded his shuttle and were in the process of stealing it. The fight escalated as Dengar and Wampas joined in, and Sorin received a wound to his shoulder. Injured, Sorin retreated behind a locked door as the remaining rebels boarded his ship and escaped from the planet.
The rebels found Sorin's data logs, but they didn't discover an Imperial transceiver on board until it was too late. General Sorin utilized the Imperial transceiver on his shuttle to determine their location, discovering that the rebel group had sought refuge in a small settlement called Haven on the planet Ison. General Sorin commanded all personnel to gather on his flagship, which was positioned above Echo Base, to prepare for his invasion of Ison. The rebels intercepted Sorin's transmission, and they decided to stop him before he could depart for Haven. While Sorin was on his flagship, the rebel squad returned to Hoth and used the still-operational V-150 Planet Defender ion cannon in an attempt to destroy Sorin's Star Destroyer before it could leave for Haven. They successfully struck the ship, but the shot only temporarily disabled the shields. The squad took advantage of this brief opportunity to board the Star Destroyer, flying into an open launch bay and crashing onto the hangar floor. However, the rebels were too late, as Sorin's Star Destroyer had already entered hyperspace and was en route to Ison.
Attack on Ison
Upon arriving above Ison, Sorin initiated his invasion. He deployed his first and second division and admired the view of his impending triumph. When an alarm began to sound, Sorin realized that the rebels had reached the bridge of his flagship. He gave the order to lock down the bridge, but the rebels overwhelmed his forces, forcing him to abandon the bridge. The rebels then caused his starship to crash onto the planet's surface. As the rebels fought Sorin's forces who were attacking the village, Sorin made his way back to the bridge of the wrecked Star Destroyer to regain control of his men. Despite his command, Sorin's forces were no match for the rebel squad. They defeated his forces and confronted Sorin on the bridge for the final time, killing him and ending his ambitions.
Personality and traits
Sorin was a ruthless commander who showed no concern for the safety of his own troops, let alone civilians. He craved recognition from Galactic Emperor Palpatine, which he hoped to earn through the success of his improved repulsor tanks.
Behind the scenes
