The stalaats were a type of creature that made their home in the caves found on the rocky planet named Rex Strata. When Kai Brightstar, Zia Zaldor Zanna, and Ace Kallisto's shuttle suffered a crash landing inside a cave, they encountered a pair of these beings.
The stalaat species was a quadrupedal one, characterized by having four [black](/article/color] eyes and skin that was a combination of red and light shades. These large creatures possessed scaly shells that protected their backs and tails, along with a series of spikes that ran along their spines. Furthermore, stalaats had a horn-like structure on their heads.
Back in the High Republic Era, specifically in the year 232 BBY, the Jedi Zia Zaldor Zanna, the Jedi Kai Brightstar, and the master thief Ace Kallisto found themselves stranded deep within a cave located on the planet Rex Strata, due to a shuttle accident. However, their only path to escape was guarded by two enormous stalaats. While Zanna was nursing an injury to her left leg sustained during the crash, Brightstar and Kallisto cooperated to create a distraction for the stalaats, hoping to call for assistance.
The stalaats represent an original species, the design of which was created by India Boeckh for the Disney+ and Disney Junior animated show Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures. This imposing species first appeared in "The Jedi and the Thief," which was the initial segment of the seventh episode from the first season of the series, and it was broadcast on May 4, 2023.
