Plot Synopsis

A Mere vessel inadvertently enters the Haunted Straits and falls victim to an ambush orchestrated by Sol Sixxa, who uses speeders to block their escape. Despite the Captain of the ship declaring they are carrying refugees attempting to flee the Trade Federation, Sol commands that the ship and its Captain be destroyed.

In a separate location, Nym, piloting his Havoc bomber, finds himself pursued by Droid Starfighters, causing him to be delayed in meeting with Loreli Ro. After eliminating the pursuing fighters, both Harro Ruuk and Sol Sixxa's scouts manage to identify his ship and relay the information to their respective leaders, who instruct them to maintain surveillance.

Arriving at Point Modie, Nym successfully connects with Loreli, who informs him that Sol is concealed too well to be detected from the air and leads him to the Cutter named Sunrunner. Nym's primary concern is the ship's lack of weaponry, which Loreli explains is due to the Trade Federation's restrictions on the Mere legally arming their vessels. Undeterred, Nym instructs Jinkins to prepare the ship for departure while wearing a life jacket, tasks Jannik with obtaining every Blaster possible from the Havoc and its Bomblet generator for his clan, directs Kole to gather any information on Sol Sixxa from the cantinas, and instructs Loreli Ro to chart a course on the Sunrunner.

The Sunrunner reaches the site of the Syren, where Nym intends to examine the damage firsthand to determine the types of weapons Sixxa might be using. Upon diving to the wreckage, he assesses the damage inflicted on the ship, discovers the head of PL-37, from whom he hopes to extract information, and finds some treasure, which he considers extra "danger pay". However, a Relix appears and attacks him. Unable to outswim the predatory fish, he manages to lodge the Sunrunner's anchor in the Relix's mouth, causing it to sever his cybernetic arm. He then orders Jinkins to accelerate to full speed, forcing the fish to surface and be blasted by Jannik's clan. Jinkins subsequently manages to reactivate the Droid's head, learning that the Syren was transporting experimental technology before it malfunctions.

Harro Ruuk soon discovers that PL-37 has been reactivated and can be tracked. He orders his forces to remain in position, anticipating that Nym will lead them to Sixxa, allowing him to eliminate both targets simultaneously. Kole learns at the Silver Cloud that the Refugee Captain survived and is instructed to bring him to Nym. Meanwhile, Sol Sixxa is also notified that the Captain is alive and that Nym is approaching. He instructs his forces to allow them to come, as he will be waiting.
