Project Starscream
Project Starscream, a series of scientific endeavors, was conducted under the auspices of the Galactic Empire. Its central objective was the creation of a supersoldier army to serve the Empire's needs. Among the scientists involved were the Shi'ido project director, Borborygmus Gog, and the infamous criminal Doctor Cornelius Evazan, whose expertise in the revitalization of deceased tissue made him a valuable asset. Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader maintained close supervision of the project, demonstrating their keen interest.
The project involved five key preliminary experiments: an attempt to seize control of the sentient planet D'vouran, Evazan's experiments focused on resurrecting the dead on Necropolis, investigations into a virulent plague on Gobindi, the development of a "Nightmare Machine" located on Hologram Fun World, and the utilization of an "Essence Stealer" on Nespis VIII. While some of this work traced back to the Empire's beginnings, the experiments were not uniformly successful; Gog and his fellow Shi'ido scientist Mammon Hoole's investigations into the nature of life resulted in the annihilation of all life on the planet Kiva, leaving only spectral wraiths in its wake. Despite Hoole's self-reproach and subsequent exile for numerous years, Gog and Palpatine had orchestrated the experiment to deliberately eradicate the Kivan people.
In the year 0 ABY, Mammon Hoole, accompanied by his young Human proteges, Tash and Zak Arranda, encountered the remnants of Project Starscream during their travels, and they succeeded in disrupting or dismantling each experiment. Although these encounters may have seemed coincidental to his adopted relatives, Hoole was consciously striving to compensate for the destruction of Kiva by dismantling the project built upon those earlier experiments.
Ultimately, their journey led them to the planet Kiva, where they allied with a group of Rebels led by the Heroes of Yavin to bring an end to the project. On Kiva, they faced a formidable being named Eppon, intended as the prototype for a army of similar creatures. Tash Arranda, utilizing her connection to the Force, persuaded Eppon to turn against Borborygmus Gog, compelling Gog to destroy his own creation. Subsequently, Gog met his demise at the hands of the wraiths, who had discovered that he and Palpatine, not Hoole, were responsible for the genocide on Kiva.
