Sumalee

Sumalee, a Togruta Jedi Master of the female persuasion, dedicated her life to the service of both the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic during the tumultuous times of the Galactic War. She found herself on Corellia amidst the intense fighting against the forces of the reconstituted Sith Empire.

Biography

In the era of the Cold War, Sumalee enjoyed a close friendship with Risha Drayen and Shariss Kartur. The trio, known as "the Triple Threat," were famous for their youthful escapades. Their paths eventually diverged: Risha embraced a life of organized crime, Shariss became an Agent within the Republic Strategic Information Service, and Sumalee committed herself to the Jedi Order. By the Galactic War, she had achieved the esteemed rank of Jedi Master. However, her past as a scoundrel was still evident, making her notably more sarcastic, cynical, and inclined to violence compared to the typical Jedi.

Throughout the years, Sumalee maintained communication with Shariss. In 3642 BBY, Shariss, while investigating the activities of the Voidwolf, found herself stranded on Hoth after her Republic escort was killed by Imperial forces. Forced to seek refuge in a private vault belonging to the Voidwolf, she contacted Sumalee for extraction. With no available Republic assistance, Sumalee turned to Risha, who was then traveling with a renowned smuggler and a Republic privateer known as the Voidhound on behalf of Senator Bevera Dodonna. Sumalee requested Risha and the Voidhound to extract Shariss, a task they accomplished with ease, allowing Shariss to safely return and report her findings to the SIS. Impressed by the smuggler's actions, Sumalee promised to keep in touch.

The Battle for Corellia

Sumalee later arranged a personal meeting with the Voidhound at the Gilded Descent Casino in Coronet City on Corellia, where the smuggler was engaged in conversation with her Drall assistant, Hreda. Initially assuming the smuggler was on a mission for Dodonna, Sumalee was shocked to learn that the Senator had betrayed the Republic to the Voidwolf. Despite the shocking revelation, Sumalee emphasized the need for concrete proof to incriminate Dodonna.

The required proof lay with Darmas Pollaran, an undercover operative within the Imperial Intelligence. With Hreda's assistance, they identified a private residence belonging to Pollaran, which the Voidhound investigated. The smuggler later contacted Sumalee via holo, revealing that Pollaran had deceived Nevis Kitt, the leader of the Corellian Resistance, into attempting to unseal Supply tunnel 26, falsely claiming it would aid the Resistance, while in reality, it would provide the Empire with an entry point. The smuggler moved to intercept the agent, while Sumalee mobilized a Republic squad and arrived after the smuggler had exposed Pollaran. Kitt identified the assassin droids summoned by Pollaran before his escape as being manufactured at Councilor Caicos' droid factory. Sumalee explained that the factory had been converted into a medical center and that Pollaran was likely to have fled there. She instructed the Voidhound to stage attacks to divert Imperial guards from the factory before infiltrating it disguised as a patient.

Sumalee spearheaded a Republic soldier squad to capture Pollaran within the Selonian tunnels.

Following the Voidhound's apprehension of Pollaran, who divulged all evidence incriminating Dodonna, they reconvened with Sumalee at a Republic safe house in Axial Park. Sumalee informed the Voidhound that Senator Dodonna had evaded Republic forces and taken refuge in the Museum of Alien History, which had been transformed into an Imperial POW camp. Sumalee tasked the Voidhound with infiltrating the museum through the Selonian tunnels, aided by the Selonian Curske.

After the smuggler apprehended Dodonna, they returned with the information that the Voidwolf was gathering a pirate fleet to assault Republic shipyards and subsequently invade the Core Worlds. Dodonna, regretting her betrayal after experiencing mistreatment at the hands of the Imperials, corroborated the information and pleaded with Sumalee to send the Voidhound after the Voidwolf personally. The most effective way to locate the Voidwolf was through Senator Caicos, who had secluded himself in his residence since the Corellian citizenry discovered his treachery. Sumalee instructed the smuggler to disable the security systems surrounding Caicos' residence before enlisting the cooperation of a guard to gain entry.

The Voidhound successfully acquired Caicos' shuttle to the Voidwolf's flagship, the Regnant. Sumalee informed her ally that the Republic was too engaged in other Imperial offensives to provide immediate assistance. She assured the Voidhound that if they succeeded in stopping the Voidwolf, the Republic would bestow upon them the highest honors.

The Voidhound succeeded in eliminating the Voidwolf and assumed command of his pirate fleet, directing them to aid the Republic instead of exploiting them for personal gain. Upon reuniting on Corellia, Sumalee introduced the smuggler to Senator Rone, Fleet Admiral Helik, Supreme Commander Rans, and Supreme Chancellor Leontyne Saresh, who praised the Voidhound's actions and awarded them the Senatorial Medal of Service, the Republic's most prestigious civilian honor. The Jedi Master also offered to continue sponsoring the Voidhound as a privateer under her guidance and promised to maintain contact.

Behind the scenes

Master Sumalee is given as a sacrifice to Zildrog.

Within the flashpoint known as "The Nathema Conspiracy", should the Outlander, playing as a Smuggler, choose the Dark Side path of retaining Voidwolf's fleet for their own purposes, Sumalee will attempt to thwart them and align herself with the Order of Zildrog, led by Vinn Atrius. Ultimately, she will be sacrificed as fuel to awaken Zildrog by GEMINI 16 on Nathema. Conversely, if the smuggler chooses the Light Side path of pledging Voidwolf's pirate fleet to the Republic, Nexia Kirill will appear in Sumalee's place, while the other classes will encounter antagonists from their respective class narratives.
