Sumi was a poncho of pink hue, featuring a white frontal panel and a ribbed white yoke encircling the neck. The renegade Jedi Padawan, Cal Kestis, discovered the necessary material to fashion the Sumi poncho within a chest located inside the lair of an Oggdo Bogdo situated in the Bogdo Sinkholes on the planet of Bogano during 14 BBY. Subsequently, Kestis adopted the pink poncho as a regular part of his attire, though he would later reflect on this choice as a fashion misstep when evaluating the armor of the Imperial Inquisitor known as the Fifth Brother sometime between 12 BBY and 11 BBY.
By 9 BBY, the soiled Sumi poncho was placed inside a wooden chest within a pit beneath Fort Kah'lin on the planet Koboh. This location served as the holding place for an oggdo known as the Spawn of Oggdo, kept there by the Bedlam Raiders.
In 9 BBY, Kestis descended into the pit, vanquished the oggdo, and subsequently reclaimed and donned the Sumi poncho.
Sumi made its debut in the 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order as an optional outfit collectible for players. The game also features a pink, green, and white skin for the droid BD-1 that shares its name with the poncho. The novel Jedi: Battle Scars by Sam Maggs, released on March 7, 2023, affirms that Kestis canonically engaged in combat with the Oggdo Bogdo and acquired the garment. Once more, a Sumi poncho became available as an optional collectible in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, launched on April 28, 2023. In Survivor, the player is required to wear the poncho to unlock the achievement or trophy titled "A Presence I've Not Felt Since…," leading this article to assume Kestis discovered and wore the poncho. Within Survivor, players have the option to modify the poncho's colors, with five alternative designs accessible, including color schemes that mirror the Bracca Scrapper, Starfighter, Commando, and Free Kashyyyk ponchos from Fallen Order.
