The assassination of Tai-Lin Garr took place in 28 ABY within the New Republic's capital city, Hosnian Prime. Arliz Hadrassian, who led the Amaxine warriors, a paramilitary group previously defeated during a skirmish on Sibensko, killed the New Republic Senator. Garr was a key figure in the Populist faction within the Galactic Senate and was nominated as the Populist's new candidate for First Senator. Following the shooting of Garr, Hadrassian took her own life with the same weapon.
In the aftermath of the assassination, the Populists organized a memory service to remember their fallen colleague. Subsequently, Lady Carise Sindian, a prominent Centrist senator and secretly an agent working for the First Order, created false evidence that implicated Ransolm Casterfo, a Centrist who disagreed with her, as being Hadrassian's accomplice. Leia Organa, Casterfo's friend, responded by persuading the Elder Houses to remove all of her royal titles from Carise.

Following the mission that took place on Sibensko, Leia Organa, a Populist Senator, delivered a speech to the Galactic Senate located on Hosnian Prime, in which she gave a detailed account of her investigation's findings. Although the cartel of Rinnrivin Di and the Amaxine warriors had been neutralized as threats to the New Republic, she cautioned that other dangers still existed. Despite facing hostility and disbelief from some senators due to her parentage as the daughter of Darth Vader, Senator Ransolm Casterfo, a Centrist colleague, defended her. He presented proof from his mission to Daxam IV, which supported her claims that the Amaxines admired the Old Empire and posed a danger to the New Republic. This action helped to restore some of Leia's reputation.
However, Casterfo's support angered his fellow Centrist, Lady Carise Sindian, who was secretly an agent working for the First Order, a remnant of the Old Empire. In an attempt to discredit Casterfo, she hired [Arliz Hadrassian](/article/arliz_hadrassian], the leader of the Amaxines, to assassinate Tai-Lin Garr, a Populist politician, Leia's friend, and the next candidate for First Senator. She also used her slicers to produce a fabricated video that suggested Casterfo and Hadrassian were allies. Lady Carise considered Casterfo a threat to her and her allies' schemes to support the First Order's ambition to conquer the galaxy.
Ten days after Leia's concluding speech to the Galactic Senate, Tai-Lin Garr, along with several Populist colleagues, which included Leia and Varish Vicly, organized a rally in a public park on Hosnian Prime. A substantial crowd, composed of individuals from across the galaxy, gathered to welcome the senior senator as he embarked on his first campaign. Following Lady Carise's instructions, Hadrassian infiltrated the crowd. Upon getting close enough to Tai-Lin, she used her blaster to shoot him in the heart, resulting in his immediate death. In the middle of the ensuing chaos, Hadrassian briefly spoke with Leia. Before killing herself by shooting herself in the head, Hadrassian mocked Leia, suggesting that she was thinking strategically. Hadrassian's suicide stopped the New Republic authorities from investigating her connections to Lady Carise.
The assassination of Tai-Lin Garr, a distinguished senator who had been in office since the New Republic's creation, triggered widespread mourning within the Galactic Senate. The Populists and Centrists temporarily set aside their disputes to grieve for the elder politician. The Senate made the decision to postpone future elections indefinitely due to the ensuing political instability. The New Republic's authorities and media attributed the Napkin Bombing, the actions of Rinnrivin's cartel, and the murder of Tai-Lin to Arliz Hadrassian, believing she sought revenge for the deaths of her Amaxine warriors on Sibensko. Leia, however, doubted the official accounts, finding it hard to believe that a small-time businesswoman could finance both a well-equipped militia and a criminal syndicate. She expressed her doubts during Tai-Lin Garr's memorial service, but Varish dismissed her concerns.
On the following day, Lady Carise released a manipulated video showing Casterfo shaking hands with Hadrassian. Consequently, the New Republic authorities identified Casterfo as the financier and mastermind behind Hadrassian and the Amaxines. Casterfo was quickly arrested for providing funds and intelligence to a terrorist organization. In accordance with Senate policy, he was deported to his homeworld of Riosa to face imprisonment, trial, and sentencing. Leia and her chief aide, Greer Sonnel, realized that the video was fake, but they were unable to prevent Casterfo's deportation. After figuring out that Lady Carise was responsible for framing Casterfo and revealing her true parentage, Leia convinced the Elder Houses to strip Carise of all her royal titles. Disappointed with the Senate, Leia established a paramilitary organization called the Resistance with the purpose of safeguarding the New Republic.
The assassination of Tai-Lin Garr serves as the central event in Claudia Gray's 2016 novel, Bloodline.
