The Tampion functioned as a fleet shuttle for the Combined Defense Forces of the New Republic.
Assigned in 16 ABY, its mission was to transport Commodore Han Solo from Coruscant to the Endurance-class fleet carrier called the Intrepid. The Intrepid was positioned at the edge of the Koornacht Cluster, so Solo could assume command of the New Republic Fifth Battle Group and mount a defense for the New Republic against the Yevetha threat.
However, during the capture of the Tampion incident, the Tampion, along with her escort consisting of eight Recon-Xs from the Fifth Battle Group's Bravo Flight, were intercepted 91 light-years away from the Koornacht Cluster. This interception was carried out by the Interdictor Star Dreadnaught named Imperator. The Tampion and its escort suffered heavy damage from intense ion cannon fire. Subsequently, the Yevetha utilized an Aramadia-class thrustship to employ a tractor beam, pulling the crippled Tampion aboard, followed by a boarding action.
Captain Sreas, who piloted the Tampion, was killed by a blaster shot. Realizing their situation was untenable, Commodore Solo and Lieutenant Barth, the fleet shuttle's engineer, surrendered without resistance. They were then taken prisoner and transported to N'zoth.
