The Power at Jakku

Plot summary

A female character, recognizable by her brown hair, walks into a garage. Inside, Roger is busy working on an X-34 landspeeder. Roger inquires whether she'd be interested in hearing another tale of heroism, then suggests recounting the story of the greatest hero of all, himself. Roger then starts to read Chapter 482 of his autobiography, From Trenches to Wrenches: The Roger Story, which is titled "The Power at Jakku."

Roger narrates that the Galactic Civil War was nearing its end, but the Galactic Empire was not surrendering easily a fight. The flashback sequence begins with AT-AT walkers pursuing New Republic soldiers across a battlefield. Star Destroyers plummet and crash into Jakku's desert landscape. Lieutenant Valeria, leading a squadron of T-47 airspeeders, instructs her team to ensure this becomes the Empire's final stand. Valeria successfully destroys a TIE fighter, but debris damages her airspeeder's stabilizer, causing it to crash in the desert.

Valeria expresses her frustration, stating that this was not part of her plan. While struggling to escape her airspeeder's cockpit, Valeria requests immediate "evac." An AT-AT approaches, threatening to crush her speeder with its massive foot. Over the comlink, Kordi Freemaker assures Valeria to hold on, as the Freemakers are on their way to assist. Using the StarScavenger's side cannon, Kordi successfully blasts the AT-AT. Subsequently, Rowan jumps down from the cargo ramp and uses his lightsaber to slice through one of the AT-AT's legs, causing it to collapse.

Rowan then employs the Force to pry open the canopy of Valeria's T-47 airspeeder. Valeria urges the Freemakers to help her rejoin the battle. Rowan assures her that they will assist her in blasting the Empire very soon. Two TIE fighters are shown chasing an X-wing. While Rowan levitates the T-47 airspeeder, Kordi repairs the cooling fin, and Zander locates a power coupling. Roger observes the Freemakers working on Valeria's T-47 airspeeder. Above them, an Imperial Star Destroyer sustains a hit, prompting cheers from the Freemakers.

However, the damaged Star Destroyer starts to descend towards their location. As the Freemakers scatter for safety, Valeria points out that her speeder cannot function without a stabilizer. Rowan instructs Roger to find the stabilizer while the others rush to complete the repairs. Roger successfully locates a stabilizer, narrowly avoiding being crushed by the front section of the falling Star Destroyer. Roger mistakenly believes he is using the Force and considers himself the first Jedi droid.

Roger then quickly realizes that Rowan was using the Force to hold back the Star Destroyer. He tells Roger to please hurry. Roger sights that he is not a Jedi and struggles with the prospect of accepting being a battle droid. Rowan tells Roger to hurry up. The two narrowly escape the crashing Star Destroyer, which generates a sandstorm. Roger passes the stabilizer to Kordi and Zander, allowing Kordi to repair Valeria's T-47 airspeeder. Valeria flies her T-47 airspeeder back into action and takes three airspeeders. The Freemakers then depart aboard the StarScavenger.

Returning to the present, Roger claims that he single-handedly stopped a Star Destroyer and defeated the evil Empire. The girl Moxie Freemaker is impressed and says she did not realize how her aunt Kordi, dad Zander, and uncle Rowan were such amazing heroes. Roger acknowledges they deserve some credit too. Kordi says more than a "bit" as she enters with two senatorial staff and a hooded lady. Moxie hugs her aunt but one of the staffers reprimands her for touching the senator. Kordi chastises him for touching her niece.

Kordi hugs Moxie, who explains that Roger was just telling her about the Freemakers' exploits during the Battle of Jakku. Moxie says that she wished she could be a hero like her aunt. Kordi replies that is why she has come all the way from Hosnian Prime. She introduces the hooded lady as Princes Leia Organa, who invites Moxie to join the Resistance. Moxie is overjoyed to meet the Rebellion hero.
