TM-171, a tactical droid of the T-series variety, fought for the Confederacy of Independent Systems' navy during the Clone Wars. In 20 BBY, this droid officer was sent to the planet of Umbara to aid in the campaign against the Galactic Republic. From a Dual Hemisphere-Omni Support Vessel in orbit, he commanded the crucial resupply efforts for the Umbaran Militia fighting on the ground.
During one resupply mission led by TM-171, a trio of Republic clone troopers managed to sneak onto his supply ship with the goal of stopping the delivery. Despite the droid's best efforts, the clones successfully destroyed the ship's reactor, leading to the destruction of the transport and the demise of the officer in charge.

TM-171, an officer in the Confederacy of Independent Systems' naval forces during the Clone Wars, was a T-series military strategic analysis and tactics droid created by Baktoid Combat Automata. In 20 BBY, this tactical droid was deployed to the planet Umbara, which the Republic had invaded after its shift in allegiance to the Confederacy. Amidst the battles on Umbara, TM-171's responsibility was to command the strategic resupply of munitions from a Dual Hemisphere-Omni Support Vessel in orbit to the Umbaran militants fighting on the surface.
As the campaign on Umbara progressed over multiple days, and following the Republic's capture of an Umbaran airbase which halted arms shipments to the Umbaran capital city, TM-171 shifted his resupply operations from his supply ship to focus on the capital as it faced increasing threat from Republic forces. The tactical droid's supply ship engaged with the Republic fleet in the atmosphere, preventing the 212th Attack Battalion of the Republic from advancing on the city. However, a defensive ring of remaining Confederacy warships from the planetary blockade heavily protected the supply ship, preventing the Republic from reaching TM-171 and destroying his vessel.

Consequently, while battles raged in the atmosphere, a team of three Republic clone troopers flew into the fray with the intention of boarding and destroying TM-171's supply ship, using stolen Zenuas 33 Umbaran starfighters. Soon after the clones entered the main hangar of the vessel, one of the B1-series battle droids under the droid officer's command alerted him to the infiltration—an event he considered to have a mere 1 in 10,003 probability. As the troopers advanced into the hangar, TM-171, after confirming that three commandeered starfighters were present, instructed his bridge crew to reinforce their defenses and activate defensive ray shields around the reactor to safeguard it from attack. Despite the droid's attempts, the troopers succeeded in destroying the reactor, causing the destruction of the supply ship and the death of TM-171, thereby aiding the Republic's campaign on Umbara.
TM-171, a T-series tactical droid, stood at a height of 1.93 meters. His plating was a mix of green and tan colors, and he had white photoreceptors. TM-171 also exhibited arrogance, particularly in his disbelief of situations he deemed improbable.
Tom Kane provided the voice for TM-171, who debuted in "Plan of Dissent," the ninth episode of season four of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, broadcast on November 11, 2011. The 2021 reference book, Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy, later identified TM-171.
