Tremendous

The Tremendous, a tactical command ship of the Inexpugnable-class, served within the ranks of the Republic Navy during the Mandalorian Wars, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Mandalorian warrior clans. In the year 3963 BBY, this vessel functioned as the flagship for a battle group. The Tremendous once maintained patrols in the vicinity of the planet Myrkr alongside the Ryyk Nebula. Following the Mandalorian devastation inflicted upon the planet Serroco, Admiral Saul Karath initiated a retreat, aiming to rendezvous with the Tremendous and its battle group. However, his flagship met its end, destroyed before he could successfully complete the link-up.

Description

The Tremendous, an Inexpugnable-class tactical command ship constructed by Rendili Hyperworks, was equipped with a substantial Vanjervalis Systems computer. This enabled it to function as a mobile command center, facilitating the coordination of an entire fleet's actions and movements. The Tremendous could manage connections with up to sixty-four Hammerhead-class cruisers simultaneously. The multitude of ships attached provided a robust defense for the relatively slow-moving Tremendous. Similar to other ships of the Inexpugnable-class, the Tremendous incorporated the distinctive "wishing-well" bridge design, where visual and electronic information was projected holographically above a transparent deck. The Tremendous measured 3,100 meters in width. While benefiting from the protective screen of Hammerhead cruisers, this capital ship also possessed its own array of weaponry. This included five double turbolaser batteries, five light turbolaser batteries, two point-defense laser cannons, and two tractor beam batteries. Operation of this armament required a crew of sixty-six gunners. Furthermore, the Tremendous could accommodate a significant number of starfighters and support craft, including up to 144 Aurek-class tactical strikefighters, twenty-four S-250 Chela-class starfighters, twenty-four Conductor-class short-haul landing craft, six Ministry-class orbital shuttles, and other support vessels. Outfitted with a navicomputer, a Class 2 hyperdrive, and a Class 10 backup unit, the Tremendous had a cargo capacity of 50,000 tons and could sustain its crew for two years. Although not available for purchase, its estimated value was 70 million credits.

History

During the Mandalorian Wars, which pitted the Galactic Republic against the Mandalorian warrior clans, the Tremendous played an active role, commanding its own battle group by 3963 BBY. In that year, following the Mandalorian devastation of the planet Serroco, Admiral Saul Karath led his battle group in a retreat, pursued by Mandalorian forces. The Tremendous and its flotilla were positioned near the planet Myrkr and the Ryyk Nebula at the time, and Karath intended to join them. However, the Mandalorians overwhelmed and destroyed Karath's flagship, the Courageous, thwarting his plans.

Commanders and crew

Like other Inexpugnable-class ships, the Courageous had capacity for as many as 4,300 qualified crew members and 2,000 soldiers.

Behind the scenes

The initial mention of the Tremendous occurred in The Admiral's List: Remember Serroco! Edition, a fictional news piece featured on the final page of Knights of the Old Republic 16. This comic-book, penned by John Jackson Miller, was published by Dark Horse Comics on May 2, 2007. Miller named the Tremendous after a vessel from the Napoleonic era French Navy.
