A vassal of the Kilji people, around 18 BBY, was stationed on the Kilji Illumine war cruiser known as the Whetstone. This individual served as the comm operator, reporting to Generalirius Nakirre, the leader of the Illumine. When the war cruiser journeyed to the "Sunrise" system in the Unknown Regions, they came across a dormant fleet that was allied with the Chiss Ascendancy. "Jixtus," a Grysk who was allied with Nakirre, told the vassal to send out a signal to look for any survivors; however, the flagship of the fleet, the Aelos, was already transmitting its own signal.
This Kilji individual, a Kilji vassal, was a member of the Kilji Illumine, the nation of his species, and a follower of the Kilji way of order and enlightenment religion. Around 18 BBY, he was the comm operator on the Kilji war cruiser Whetstone, which served as the flagship of Generalirius Nakirre, the leader of the Illumine. After the Whetstone arrived at the "Sunrise" system in the Unknown Regions, "Jixtus," a Grysk ally of Nakirre, instructed the vassal to transmit a signal calling for survivors after observing a deactivated fleet of warships aligned with the Chiss Ascendancy; however, the Kilji pointed out that the fleet's flagship, the Aelos, was already sending a signal.
Not long after, Jixtus murdered Nakirre, causing the generalirius's vassals to enter a catatonic state and grieve for their deceased leader. One of these vassals explained to Qilori, a navigator from the Pathfinder, that the vassals aboard the Whetstone were incapable of independent thought or action without Nakirre, because their religion forbade it. As the Ascendancy fleet reactivated and began to engage Jixtus's fleet, the Grysk departed the Whetstone for his flagship, the FateSpinner, and attempted to communicate with Qilori. Because the Kilji comm operator was slumped over his station, the navigator was compelled to use Nakirre's unoccupied station to communicate with Jixtus.
Following the navigator's conversation with the Grysk, the FateSpinner began to flee. Qilori then pledged to guide the Whetstone's vassals until he could return them to their people. Under the Pathfinder's orders, a weapons vassal fired the cruiser's weaponry at the FateSpinner, destroying the starship's aft flank and causing Jixtus to destroy his flagship and kill himself.
This vassal character made an appearance in Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, the 2021 novel that concluded the Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy by Timothy Zahn.
