Unity (Starhawk-class)

The Unity, designated as a Starhawk-class Battleship Mark I, served within the ranks of the New Republic Defense Fleet amidst the events of the Galactic Civil War in the year 5 ABY. A notable engagement for the Unity was its participation in the Battle of Jakku.

Description

Constructed by Nadiri Dockyards following the Battle of Endor, the Unity represented a Starhawk-class Battleship Mark I. It was fashioned using components salvaged from dismantled Imperial starships. This battleship was characterized by its distinctive hatchet-shaped bow.

History

To bolster their war efforts against the remaining Imperial forces during the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Senate of the New Republic commissioned the Unity alongside other Mark One Starhawks. In the Battle of Jakku, the Unity, alongside its sister vessels Concord and Amity, played a role in a wedge formation intended to break through the dense Imperial fleet positioned above the planet Jakku. The Unity operated on the starboard flank of the Concord. During the conflict, both sister ships met their end when Captain Groff, the commanding officer of the Punishment, panicked and directed his ship into a collision course with the Concord and Amity. The Unity requested assistance from starfighter squadrons to repel incoming Imperial fighters. It later deployed orbital strikes targeting Imperial walkers in support of Commander Iden Versio and Captain Lindsey, whose positions were under duress. Ultimately, the battle concluded with a resounding victory for the New Republic.

Behind the scenes

The initial appearance of the Unity occurred in Aftermath: Empire's End, a 2017 novel penned by Chuck Wendig, serving as the third entry in The Aftermath Trilogy.
