Starhawk-class Battleship Mark I

The Mark I Starhawk-class Battleship, alternatively referred to as the Mark One Starhawk or Nadiri Mk I Starhawk, represented the inaugural model of the Starhawk-class battleship series used by the New Republic Defense Fleet. Echoing the construction methods employed at the Nadiri Dockyards for all their ships, these vessels were assembled using components salvaged from captured Imperial spacecraft. Notably, it stood out as one of the initial ship classes commissioned by the New Republic, via a military contract, in the aftermath of the Battle of Endor. By 5 ABY, the construction of at least three Starhawks was complete: the Amity, the Concord, and the Unity. Regrettably, the Amity and Concord met their demise during the Battle of Jakku.

Description

A Starhawk Mark I being constructed at Nadiri Dockyards.

The Starhawk-class battleship came to be from the New Republic's repurposing of captured Imperial starships following the Battle of Endor. The Starhawk's prow was designed in the shape of a hatchet blade. As a warship, the Starhawk's armaments included laser cannons, ion torpedoes, concussion missiles and turbolaser batteries. The Starhawk's interior design featured bright, clean, curved lines. The docking bay's ceiling was designed with white, scalloped edges and illuminated by warm, glowing lights. The floors of the docking bay also incorporated lighting elements.

Designated as a battleship, the Starhawk possessed the capability to confront a Star Destroyer. Its armament surpassed that of an MC80A Home One Type Heavy Star Cruiser. The tractor beam on the Starhawk utilized magnite crystals, amplifying its power to ten times that of a Star Destroyer's. This enhanced tractor beam allowed the Starhawk to ensnare and maneuver vessels significantly larger than itself. Nevertheless, its capabilities were overshadowed by those of an Executor-class Star Dreadnought.

History

The Mark One Starhawk holds the distinction of being among the first capital ships that were commissioned by the New Republic, the organization that succeeded the Alliance to Restore the Republic. These vessels were manufactured at the Nadiri Dockyards, located deep within the Bormea sector, and were intended for service in the New Republic Defense Fleet following the Battle of Endor. After a contentious debate within the Galactic Senate, Chancellor Mon Mothma successfully secured enough votes to authorize the dismantling of Imperial ships. This initiative aimed to procure resources for the construction of new starships, droids, and weaponry, bolstering the war effort against the remaining Imperial forces.

The Amity during the Battle of Jakku

The Concord was the first Starhawk to be completed. It became the command ship for Commodore Kyrsta Agate, who had earned a promotion due to her actions during the liberation of Akiva. In 5 ABY, during a skirmish that occurred near Wild Space, Commodore Agate, aboard the Starhawk Concord, along with the Alderaanian escort frigate Sunspire, successfully eliminated Commander Valent's Star Destroyer, the Scythe. The Concord would later participate in the capture of the Kuat Drive Yards.

During the Battle of Jakku, the Concord, along with its sister ships, the Amity and the Unity, played a pivotal role in the New Republic Starfleet's assault on the concentrated Imperial fleet positioned above Jakku. The Amity was destroyed when the Star Destroyer Punishment collided with it. However, this created a vulnerability in the Imperial lines, which Commodore Agate exploited to maneuver her Starhawk into a position to attack the Super Star Destroyer Ravager. Although the Ravager severely damaged the Concord, Agate skillfully employed the Concord's powerful tractor beam to pull the Imperial command ship down onto the surface of Jakku. While Agate and her ship were lost in the process, her actions were instrumental in shifting the battle's momentum in favor of the New Republic.

Behind the scenes

The Mark One Starhawk made its debut in Chuck Wendig's 2016 novel, Aftermath: Life Debt.

The battleship subsequently received a visual representation in the Nadiri Starhawk Expansion Pack for Star Wars: Armada, which was released by Fantasy Flight Games on January 31, 2020.
