Ushar

Ushar existed as a male humanoid individual, possessing Force-sensitivity, who functioned as a member within the Knights of Ren. He served under the command of a figure recognized as Ren. Ushar, alongside his fellow Knights, subsequently welcomed Ben Solo into their ranks; Solo adopted the moniker "Kylo Ren" and became their new leader. Kylo then affiliated himself with the First Order, ultimately rising to the position of Supreme Leader, prior to his redemption to the light side of the Force. Reverted to his identity as Ben Solo, the former Knight met his end at the hands of Solo, along with the other Knights, on Exegol.

Biography

Not long after the pursuit of Rey, Ushar and the other members of the Knights of Ren found themselves situated within the Sith Citadel belonging to Darth Sidious on Exegol. During the events of the battle of Exegol, Kylo Ren, now the redeemed Ben Solo, made his way into the Citadel with the intention of rescuing Rey.

The redeemed Ben Solo faced his former allies on Exegol.

Before Solo could arrive at the Throne of the Sith, Ushar and the Knights confronted their previous commander. Solo briefly entertained the notion that the Knights might offer assistance, but their intense animosity made Solo realize that their true allegiance had always been to Sidious. The Knights quickly gained the upper hand against Solo, who was unarmed at the time, forcing him to the ground and subjecting him to a beating. However, through the connection of their Force-bond, Rey managed to transmit his grandfather's lightsaber to Solo. Wielding Anakin's lightsaber, Ben swiftly dispatched Kuruk and Cardo before using a Force push to send Ap'lek plummeting into a pit, and then eliminating Vicrul. Trudgen attempted to strike his former superior, but Solo effortlessly ended his life. As the remaining Knight, Ushar also attempted an attack, but the redeemed Jedi evaded him by leaping over him and impaling him from behind.

Personality and traits

Of all the Knights, Ushar was the most inclined to compel prisoners to plead for mercy. He derived pleasure from evaluating the courage of his victims. Ushar held the belief that those who exhibited weakness deserved a drawn-out punishment, while those who resisted garnered his personal regard and a swift demise.

Powers and abilities

Ushar wielded a war club as his preferred weapon.

Ushar possessed Force-sensitivity and demonstrated skill with the dark side of the Force, but his lack of formal training limited the full potential of his abilities.

Despite his considerable prowess as a Knight of Ren, Ushar met a rapid end, succumbing to a backstab wound inflicted by his redeemed former Master, Ben Solo, during the battle on Exegol.

Equipment

Ushar's weapon of choice was a war club featuring a heavy, blunt end. Affixed to the end of his war club was a kinetite generator charged end, equipped with concussion vector vanes designed to release a widespread concussive blast upon impact with a target. Ushar carried a vibromachete in an inverted sheath positioned on his torso. Additionally, Ushar utilized shaped baradium charges, which functioned as potent area-of-effect weapons.

In line with the other Knights of Ren, Ushar donned exclusively black attire. He wore iron weave vambraces, enabling him to execute a forceful backhand strike. Ushar's helmet incorporated breathing tubes and anti-ox filters, potentially indicating a non-human origin. The helmet exhibited partial crumpling, a result of a prior encounter with a particularly defiant prisoner.

Behind the scenes

Concept art of Ushar by Glyn Dillon.

Ushar's initial appearance occurred within a Force vision featured in the 2015 film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, the inaugural installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. In the 2019 film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, Ushar was brought to life by martial artist Ashley Beck, although the film's credits only listed the character as "Knight of Ren." Concurrent identification of the character took place in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Galactic Guide, and his card in Star Wars: Card Trader, all released in conjunction with the film.

The design for Ushar was conceived by artist Glyn Dillon for The Force Awakens. Similar to the other Knights, Ushar's design drew inspiration from unused concept art intended for the "Jedi Killer," a character that ultimately evolved into Kylo Ren. Dillon referenced Vicrul's design as "x head" within The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
