Winta

Winta was a young human girl living on the planet of Sorgan in a farming community during the era of the New Republic period. She was the daughter of Omera.

During the Mandalorian's stay of several weeks in the village, Winta developed a bond with Grogu, becoming his primary companion in play and caregiver.

Story

Winta and her mother Omera hide from raiders.

[Omera](/article/omera], Winta's mother, was a widow. They made their home in a modest krill-farming village situated on the planet Sorgan. The Klatooinian raiders frequently targeted the village, compelling Winta, Omera, and the other villagers to seek refuge to avoid capture or injury. In one such instance, Winta and her mother concealed themselves in a krill pond, using a fishing basket as cover, until the raiders had departed. When Caben and Stoke, fellow villagers, successfully persuaded the Mandalorian to assist in defending their village, he brought along Carasynthia Dune, a former rebel shock trooper. Upon their arrival, Winta led a small group of children to greet Grogu.

Omera offered the Mandalorian a place to stay. When Winta startled the Mandalorian by entering the dwelling, Omera reassured her, explaining that the bounty hunter was there to safeguard the village. Winta expressed her gratitude to the Mandalorian. Later, Winta delivered food and inquired if she could feed The Child, to which the Mandalorian agreed. Immediately afterward, Winta asked for permission to play with The Child. The Mandalorian consented, but hesitated as Winta began to lead The Child outside. Omera reassured him that everything would be alright, and he conceded. After a brief exchange, Omera departed, and the Mandalorian removed his helmet to eat while observing Winta, the Child, and several other children playing in the village square.

After Dune and the Mandalorian investigated the Klatooinian raiders and discovered the tracks of an AT-ST, they gathered the villagers and informed them that they would need to relocate. Winta held The Child as Omera declared that the farmers had nowhere else to go and would not be leaving. After the Mandalorian and Cara Dune agreed to train the tribe, a number of villagers received training in the use of blasters and other weaponry. Following their training, the Mandalorian instructed Omera to prepare for the attack as he and Dune left to provoke the Klatooinian raiders. The two returned with the AT-ST and raiders in pursuit. During the subsequent battle, Winta held The Child as the children sought refuge in a hut. The tribe successfully defended against the attack.

In the weeks that followed the battle, Dune and the Mandalorian took up residence in the village. Winta continued to play with The Child and care for him. Observing the Child happily playing with Winta and the others, the Mandalorian informed Omera of his intention to leave the Child behind in order to ensure his safety. Omera requested that the Mandalorian stay and attempted to remove his helmet but was stopped by him, stating that only the Child belonged there. Their conversation was interrupted by a gunshot, which turned out to be Dune eliminating a bounty hunter who had attempted to assassinate the Child. Realizing that the Child's life was still in danger, the Mandalorian decided to depart the planet with him. As the Mandalorian bid farewell to Dune and Omera, Winta embraced the Child tightly, saying, "I'll miss you so much,", and watched as they left the village.
