Yuvar Xal

Yuvar Xal was a Sith Master of the Sith Tribe hailing from the planet of Kesh; he was a male Human. By the year 43.5 ABY, he had chosen the Keshiri Ahri Raas to be his apprentice. In that year, Xal, along with many other Sith, sensed the presence of Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker through the Force after the Jedi touched the Codex, an Aing-Tii relic. Xal later voiced his disagreement with the decision to dispatch a small strike team to confront Skywalker, arguing that a more substantial force would be required to defeat him. Despite this, Xal and Raas were selected to be part of the strike force tasked with locating the Meditation Sphere Ship and eliminating Skywalker. Xal took on the role of executive officer to Lady Olaris Rhea for this dangerous assignment.

However, Xal's faith in Rhea's leadership waned, and he began to secretly plan a coup to overthrow her. During this time, the team tracked Ship to a planet located within the Maw, where they encountered Abeloth, a powerful being who offered her assistance to the Sith in their struggle for survival. Xal instructed Raas to exploit Rhea's apprentice, Vestara Khai, to gather intelligence that could aid his coup. As he prepared to initiate his plan, Ship unexpectedly returned to the Sith. The team was then transported to Sinkhole Station, where they were to stage an ambush against Luke Skywalker and his son, Ben. During the battle, Xal commanded Raas to betray and assassinate Khai, but the apprentice failed to carry out the order. In response, Khai hurled her shikkar at Xal, killing him instantly.

Biography

Early life

From the isolated Wild Space planet of Kesh, Yuvar Xal was a Force-sensitive male Human. He was a member of the Lost Tribe of Sith, the descendants of a group of Sith who became marooned on the planet in 5000 BBY when their starship, the Omen, was thrown off course during a hyperspace jump while attempting to deliver a shipment of Lignan crystals to Sith Lord Naga Sadow during the Great Hyperspace War. Yuvar Xal received training from the Tribe in the dark side of the Force and learned the ways of the Sith. He successfully completed his apprenticeship and ultimately achieved the rank of Sith Master. In 41 ABY, Ship, a Sith Meditation Sphere, arrived on the planet to make contact with the Tribe and assist in the training of their apprentices. Ship informed the Tribe of the near-extinction of the Sith and urged them to conquer the weakened galaxy. With the help of the Meditation Sphere, the Tribe began to form a new armada. Sometime after Ship's arrival on Kesh, Yuvar Xal chose the Keshiri Ahri Raas as his apprentice.

Luke Skywalker

By 43.5 ABY, the Tribe's armada consisted of over two dozen ships when exiled Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker touched the Codex, an Aing-Tii relic, which amplified his presence and broadcast his name through the Force to members of the Tribe. In response to this event, the Circle of Lords, the Tribe's ruling council, convened a meeting in the Circle Chambers located in Tahv, the capital city of Kesh. Grand Lord Darish Vol and Lady Olaris Rhea announced that they had personally selected a strike team to hunt down Skywalker. Xal openly opposed this decision, arguing that a small team would not be sufficient to defeat the Jedi Master, whom he believed would be accompanied by a large force of ships. Rhea, however, maintained that a small number of vessels would be better suited to gather information discreetly compared to an entire fleet, and Xal reluctantly accepted her reasoning. Shortly after, Ship abruptly departed Kesh, and it was decided that the strike team would follow Ship and return it to Kesh before pursuing Skywalker.

Strike team

Xal was assigned to the strike force aboard the starship Eternal Crusader as Rhea's executive officer. When the Sith landed on the planet in the Maw to which Ship had led them, Xal accompanied Rhea as part of the search party, while a Sith Saber, Baad Walusari, was left in command of the Eternal Crusader. On the planet, the Sith encountered a powerful being named Abeloth, who controlled the entire world. Abeloth agreed to assist the Sith and protect them from the planet's deadly plants and animals, but secretly prevented Ship from returning to them. While the Sith remained on the planet, tensions escalated, and Xal began plotting a coup to seize leadership of the team from Rhea. Xal instructed Raas to cultivate a closer relationship with Rhea's apprentice, Vestara Khai, hoping to extract valuable information to aid in the coup.

Vestara Khai, Xal's killer

Before their plans could be implemented, however, Abeloth discovered the presence of Skywalker and his son, Jedi Knight Ben Skywalker, at Sinkhole Station, a space station in the Maw, and allowed Ship to return to the Tribe. The Sith then departed the planet to ambush the Skywalkers. Upon arriving at the station, Xal, along with Raas, Khai, and Walusari, were positioned to ambush the Skywalkers with grenades. Xal had instructed Raas to betray his friend and throw her explosives back at her. When the Jedi arrived on the scene after escaping the first ambush set up by the Sith, Khai launched her grenades at them, and Raas quickly threw her grenades back at her while Xal turned Walusari's grenades back on him. Rhea, however, had anticipated the betrayal and provided Walusari and Khai with a pair of fake grenades to throw first. Meanwhile, Raas' stun grenades appeared to incapacitate one of the Skywalkers, and as Xal moved toward the Jedi, Khai threw her shikkar at him. The glass blade penetrated ten centimeters into Xal's body, and the Sith Master cried out in surprise and pain as he died. Raas, distracted by his master's yell, was quickly killed by the supposedly stunned Skywalker.

Personality and traits

Yuvar Xal was known for being outspoken and freely expressing his opinions on various matters, even when they differed from those of the Circle of Lords. Although he was initially displeased when Rhea dismissed his observation, he ultimately accepted her decision. However, as a member of the strike team, Xal grew dissatisfied with Rhea's leadership and began plotting to betray her. He involved his apprentice in his plans, using him to get close to Khai, Raas' best friend and Rhea's apprentice, in the hopes of uncovering information that could be useful to his rebellion. He ultimately initiated the coup during the battle with the Skywalkers, but it was foreseen by Rhea and proved unsuccessful, resulting in Xal's death at Khai's hands.

Powers and abilities

Xal received training in the dark side of the Force and the ways of the Sith. He successfully completed his apprenticeship and eventually rose to the prestigious rank of Sith Master, taking on the Tyro Ahri Raas as his apprentice. He was an influential member of the Tribe and felt comfortable speaking out during the meeting in Tahv after Skywalker's presence was revealed to the Sith—an act that someone of lesser power would not have been allowed to do.
