Tenebrous Legion

The Tenebrous Legion, also known as the 26th, was a legion consisting of five thousand Sith troopers. This military group belonged to the Sith Eternal, a Sith cult devoted to the dark side. During the Battle of Exegol in 35 ABY, the Sith Eternal's forces, including this legion, fought in the war between the First Order and the Resistance. The Sith were ultimately defeated. Because the Sith's history was kept secret from the rest of the galaxy, only the cultists of the Sith Eternal understood the meaning behind the legion's name, which came from the ancient Sith Lord Darth Tenebrous.

Description

The Tenebrous Legion consisted of 5,000 Sith troopers (pictured).

Designated numerically as the 26th, the Tenebrous Legion was a component legion within the army of the Sith Eternal, a cult of the dark side based on Exegol, the throneworld of the Sith located in the Unknown Regions. This legion was comprised of five thousand soldiers, specifically Sith troopers and Sith Jetpack Troopers. These soldiers were created from several sources: the offspring of Sith cultists, former members of the Galactic Empire, and children who were conscripted into the First Order and then selected for their potential before disappearing into the Sith ranks. The Tenebrous Legion was further organized into squadrons consisting of ten soldiers each, with a mix of standard Sith infantry and aerial troopers.

Each legion of the Sith Eternal received a numerical designation and was named after an ancient Sith Lord; in the case of the 26th, that Sith Lord was Darth Tenebrous. The significance of these names was understood only by members of the Sith Eternal, as the history of the Sith was concealed from the rest of the galaxy. Being composed of Sith troopers, the Tenebrous Legion's soldiers were equipped with Sith trooper armor in crimson red, and they could be armed with either ST-W48 blaster rifles or FWMB-10B repeating blasters. Sith Jetpack Troopers, on the other hand, were equipped with NJP-900 integrated jetpacks and F-11ABA heavy blaster cannons.

History

The Tenebrous Legion saw action during the war that spanned from 34 ABY to 35 ABY between the First Order and the Resistance. In 35 ABY, the Sith Eternal and its military forces participated in the Battle of Exegolin, where they faced defeat at the hands of a combined force of the Resistance and the Citizens' Fleet. This defeat led to the death of Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith, and the destruction of all his forces, which included the Tenebrous Legion.

Behind the scenes

The Tenebrous Legion received a mention in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, a book authored by Pablo Hidalgo and released in 2019.
