During the High Republic Era, R0-VR was owned by Ty Yorrick, a former Jedi who had departed the Jedi Order as a Padawan and since came to work as a saber-for-hire and monster hunter. The astromech droid traveled with Yorrick and her admin unit KL-03 aboard her starship, a YT-750 freighter. Yorrick did not see a point in naming the droid, which she viewed, like KL-03 and her freighter, as nothing more than tools. However, Yorrick did admit that R0-VR was useful; the droid worked to repair her vessel, which was battered and close to falling apart, despite Yorrick's attempts to earn money through her work.
After Yorrick was hired to catch a gundark by a wealthy , R0-VR accompanied her to Blarrum, an astronomical object in the Outer Rim Territories. While Yorrick attempted to wrangle the creature, R0-VR made repairs to her starship.
Around three months after the events on Blarrum, Yorrick was hired to rescue the son of a marsh-lord on the planet Safrifa. After Yorrick completed the mission and additionally dealt with a Drengir for local Safrifan farmers, she was approached by the inventor Mantessa Chekkat, who hired Yorrick to act as her bodyguard while visiting the planet Valo during the Republic Fair; however, Chekkat insisted that they travel aboard her own vessel, the Dynamo, much to the chagrin of R0-VR and KL-03. In need of credits, Yorrick took the job, docking her own ship at Port Haileap. Yorrick left her two droids behind, despite R0-VR whining at the situation.
An astromech droid, R0-VR, also known as Rover, had the temperament of a loyal canine, often resembling a lovelorn puppy. The droid had two legs, atop which sat a tapered cylindrical body. R0-VR possessed tan plating and its front plate featured three white sensors. The astromech droid was also equipped with a tool with which to repair starships.
R0-VR was created by Cavan Scott for the Star Wars: The High Republic publishing initiative. It was introduced in the Characters of Star Wars: The High Republic video for Ty Yorrick, released on April 15, 2021, and was identified in Scott's novel The High Republic: The Rising Storm, published on June 29, 2021.
The droid was based on concept art for L3-37 from Solo: A Star Wars Story created by Jake Lunt Davies. Having seen the concept in The Art of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Scott liked the design and was determined to introduce it in The High Republic.
