During the Clone Wars, a Force-sensitive Jedi Initiate who was a non-binary Chalhuddan youngling belonged to the Jedi Order. In 22 BBY, this youngling was among a group that received a lecture from Jedi Anakin Skywalker, who shared insights he had gained on his path to becoming a Jedi Knight. Following Skywalker's presentation, the Chalhuddan engaged him in a brief conversation, remarking that he had given them much to remember.

The non-binary Chalhuddan youngling was a Jedi Initiate affiliated with the Jedi Order in the era of the Republic Era. As the Clone Wars unfolded between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the youngling underwent training at the Jedi Temple situated on Coruscant, a planet within the Core Worlds. Sometime after Anakin Skywalker was made a Jedi Knight in 22 BBY, the Chalhuddan was present in a small training room within the Coruscant temple along with a group of about ten Jedi Initiates being addressed by Skywalker.
Skywalker shared with the gathered younglings the lessons he had learned on his Jedi journey prior to his knighting, incorporating teachings from his childhood friend, Kitster; his mother, Shmi; his Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi; and his Gungan acquaintance, Jar Jar Binks. Once the newly appointed Knight had finished his talk, the Chalhuddan commented that the Knight's words gave them a lot to consider. Skywalker suggested that they should remember the words of the late Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn: to feel, not think, and to trust their instincts. However, after noticing Jedi Master Mace Windu observing the session, Skywalker also told the Chalhuddan and the other younglings to seek permission before acting, even if they were sure of their next move. For another thirty minutes, Skywalker answered questions and entertained the Initiates with acrobatic tricks until a Padawan arrived to gather the group.
The youngling hailed from the Chalhuddan species, a sentient race native to the Outer Rim planet of Chal Hudda. Owing to the intricate nature of their [language](/article/chalhuddan_language], which lacked direct equivalents in Galactic Basic Standard, individuals of this species were referred to using the personal pronoun "they" in the latter language. By 22 BBY, the youngling's horns were just beginning to grow on their head.
Being a member of the Jedi Order, they possessed Force-sensitivity and were in the process of learning the ways of the Force.

This Chalhuddan youngling made an appearance in Mike Chen's 2022 novel, Brotherhood. During the writing process, Chen consulted with the Lucasfilm Story Group about including a non-binary species within Brotherhood to enhance the work's representation. The Story Group suggested incorporating a Chalhuddan, which led to the inclusion of the non-binary youngling in the novel.
The Chalhuddans were initially introduced in Claudia Gray's 2017 young-adult novel Leia, Princess of Alderaan as a species where members experience five distinct genders throughout their lives and are referred to using "they/them" pronouns in Galactic Basic. Although Brotherhood doesn't explicitly state the youngling's gender, it does employ the singular "they/them" pronouns when referring to them. In response to a question regarding whether the character was genderfluid akin to the Chalhuddans in Leia, Princess of Alderaan, Chen clarified that they belonged to a non-binary species.
