A non-binary Chalhuddan youngling was a Force-sensitive Jedi Initiate of the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars. In 22 BBY, they were part of a group addressed by Jedi Anakin Skywalker regarding lessons learned on the way to becoming a Jedi Knight. The Chalhuddan conversed with Skywalker briefly after his speech to them, telling the Knight he had said a lot to remember.
A non-binary Chalhuddan youngling was a Jedi Initiate of the Jedi Order during the Republic Era. By the time of the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, they trained in the Jedi Temple on the Core Worlds planet Coruscant. In the weeks following Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker's Knighting Ceremony in 22 BBY, the Chalhuddan was part of a group of ten Jedi Initiates that Skywalker addressed in a small training room within the Coruscant temple.
Skywalker told the assembled younglings of what he had learned as a Jedi before becoming a Knight, including the lessons imparted from his childhood friend, Kitster; his mother, Shmi; his Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi; and his Gungan friend, Jar Jar Binks. After new Knight finished his speech, the Chalhuddan expressed that the Knight had said a lot of things to remember. Skywalker suggested that they should remember the words of the late Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn: to feel, not think, and to trust their instincts. However, after noticing Jedi Master Mace Windu observing the session, Skywalker also told the Chalhuddan and the other younglings to seek permission before acting, even if they were sure of their next move. For another thirty minutes, Skywalker answered questions and entertained the Initiates with acrobatic tricks until a Padawan arrived to gather the group.
The youngling was a Chalhuddan, a sentient species native to the Outer Rim planet Chal Hudda. Due to the complexity of their language not having equivalents in Galactic Basic Standard, individuals of the species would be addressed with the personal pronoun "they" in the latter language. By 22 BBY, the youngling's two horns were just beginning to sprout on their head.
As a member of the Jedi Order, they were Force-sensitive and learned the ways of the Force.
The Chalhuddan youngling appeared in the 2022 novel Brotherhood, written by Mike Chen. While writing the novel, Chen queried the Lucasfilm Story Group about including a non-binary species in Brotherhood to add more representation to the work. The Story Group suggested including a Chalhuddan, resulting in the inclusion of the non-binary youngling in the novel.
The 2017 young-adult novel Leia, Princess of Alderaan by Claudia Gray first introduced the Chalhuddans as a species whose members all experienced five distinct genders during their lifetimes and used "they/them" pronouns while being referred to in Galactic Basic. Though Brotherhood does not indicate the youngling's gender, the work refers to them with singular "they/them" pronouns. When asked about whether the character was genderfluid similar to the Chalhuddans in Leia, Princess of Alderaan, Chen indicated that they were from a non-binary species.
