Arkanian dragons were a flying dragon species. These creatures shared a namesake with the Arkanians, who were the native species of the Colonies planet Arkania. Approximately around 2 BBY, Lothal's governor, Arihnda Pryce, accompanied by Imperial Security Bureau agent Gudry, traveled to the planet Batonn. Their mission was to gather information regarding the insurgency taking place there, and also to extract Pryce's parents, specifically Talmoor and Elainye Pryce. While they were present on Batonn, Gudry informed the governor that he would not be taking her parents with them, adding sarcastically that even if they transformed into flying Arkanian dragons, they still wouldn't be able to fly their group out of there.
Within the existing Star Wars canon, Arkanian dragons received a mention in the 2017 novel titled Thrawn, penned by Timothy Zahn. This novel served as the initial entry in the Star Wars: The Thrawn Trilogy. Conversely, within the Star Wars Legends storyline, Arkanian dragons were initially referenced in the fifth issue of the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi - Dark Lords of the Sith comic series, which was launched on February 14, 1995.
