"BB-8 and the Jungle Adventure - Chapter 1" marks the debut episode of the animated short series known as Star Wars Roll Out. Its initial release occurred on YouTube on August 9, 2019.
The opening sequence showcases BB-8 and a Star Wars ball leading a procession, followed by Rey, Maz Kanata, Finn, Captain Phasma, a pair of stormtroopers, Ben Solo, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and a trio of porgs.
As the Resistance works on the upkeep of their base situated on D'Qar, their droids engage in tasks such as cutting and excavating through the planet's jungle. BB-8 rolls past various Resistance members - pilots, ground crew, and droids including C-3PO, Nien Nunb, Pammich Nerro Goode, Bollie Prindel, Kaydel Ko Connix, and Vober Dand - venturing into the jungle to provide assistance to the other droids.
He comes across a wide blue labor droid digging a hole in a forest clearing, with a smaller hover droid illuminating the area. BB-8 rolls out of the pit and meets a four-legged orange droid leveling the ground. He also finds a yellow heavy loader droid named B-U4D using a chain saw to cut down trees. 4B-EG-6, a GNK power droid, is standing in the background.
BB-8 attempts to lend a hand by trying to sever a branch from a tree, but vines quickly envelop him, suspending him high above the ground. The other droids, noticing his predicament, try to help him get free. As they pull, the vine stretches, eventually launching the BB unit deep into the jungle's darkness. The droids are distressed by BB-8's sudden disappearance.
Following his brief, uncontrolled flight, BB-8 ends up in a tree nest occupied by long-necked birds, who curiously peck at him. BB-8's descent is prolonged and winding, including a moment where he's tasted by a giant plant. Despite reaching the ground, his antenna is now bent. Luckily, a gray reptilian creature appears and licks him, straightening his antenna. BB-8 is now lost and scared, deep within D'Qar.
