4B-EG-6

4B-EG-6, a GNK-series power droid of the green variety, was a liberated, or emancipated, unit. Possessing masculine programming, this droid faithfully served the Resistance throughout their conflict with the First Order. This particular droid was stationed on the planet of D'Qar at the Resistance base, where its duties included equipment maintenance and, in secrecy, membership within the Resistance spy droid network.

During the year 34 ABY, 4B-EG-6 was present in the landing zones of the base. He was there when T-70 X-wing starfighters from the Resistance returned after achieving victory in the battle of Takodana, and later, the Battle of Starkiller Base. When the Millennium Falcon departed from D'Qar on its voyage to Ahch-To, the droid was among those from the Resistance who were there to see the starship off.

Biography

Base power source

4B-EG-6, the emancipated GNK-series power droid with masculine programming, provided essential services to the Resistance as they engaged in conflict with the rising military and political power, the First Order. He was assigned to the Resistance's base of operations located on the planet D'Qar, where he was frequently tasked with providing continuous energy to the network of starship runways, including recharging starfighters in flight and their power systems after their return. He also diligently worked to maintain the base's equipment.

Given the Resistance's intention for the base to be easily dismantled and relocated, the mobile power and maintenance provided by 4B-EG-6 was crucial for ground crews and pilots maintaining their starships' optimal performance. Beyond these duties, 4B-EG-6 secretly served as a member of the Resistance spy droid network managed by C-3PO, a protocol droid, and his subordinate PZ-4CO, reporting observations and information.

Read to serve

4B-EG-6 tended to Black One after the battle of Takodana.

During 34 ABY, the year when the Blue Squadron of T-70 X-wing starfighters came back from fighting the First Order forces on Takodana, 4B-EG-6 began recharging the squadron's fighters. One of the ships he tended to was located directly across from the Millennium Falcon, a YT-1300 light freighter. He then became a part of the maintenance crew that serviced Black One, the X-wing starfighter flown by Black Leader Poe Dameron.

The droid was present again in the bay across from the Falcon's landing zone when the Resistance's pilots returned to D'Qar following the successful destruction of the Starkiller Base superweapon belonging to the First Order. Shortly afterward, when Rey, the scavenger, departed D'Qar aboard the Falcon on her way to Ahch-To, 4B-EG-6 was alongside B-U4D, another Resistance droid, being checked over by a Resistance member. Both droids then joined the large crowd waving the freighter off. He then assisted with the rapid dismantling of the base for evacuation when the First Order counter-attacked D'Qar.

Characteristics

4B-EG-6 was a dedicated member of the Resistance who strived to ensure equipment was always operational, working diligently and taking only brief maintenance breaks. Like other GNK power droids, he stood 1.1 meters tall, with a stocky build and a bulky, angular body manufactured by Industrial Automaton. Equipped with a pair of legs, he could move to where he was needed, providing power via his internal fusion generator. His color scheme included green with red markings on the front panel and a yellow stripe on the rear.

Behind the scenes

4B-EG-6 becomes extremely excited after seeing R2-D2 in "Fan Droids."

4B-EG-6 made his debut appearance in the 2015 film, Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, which is part of the sequel trilogy. The droid was not identified in the film itself, but his name was revealed in Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book authored by Pablo Hidalgo that was released in conjunction with Episode VII.

Non-canon appearances

In the Star Wars Blips animated short "Fan Droids," which is non-canon and was released on September 3, 2017, 4B-EG-6 and other Resistance Droids are shown watching a holographic projection of the past deeds of R2-D2, the astromech droid. Their excitement peaks when R2-D2 himself passes by, causing the GNK droid to become so thrilled that a portion of its front panel explodes, resulting in it falling onto its back.

4B-EG-6 also appears in the first three episodes of Star Wars Roll Out, a series of non-canon animated shorts released in 2019. Within the jungle near the D'Qar Resistance base, 4B-EG-6 is part of a group of Resistance Droids working. BB-8 stumbles upon the group before getting stuck in a vine hanging from one of the jungle trees. The group attempts to help BB-8, but they accidentally launch him into the sky, causing them to panic.

4B-EG-6 aided in rescuing BB-8 from the D'Qar jungle.

Using a holographic map, the droids tracked BB-8's landing location and hurried through the jungle to reach him. They paused upon hearing the roars of various jungle creatures, at which point a small creature descended on webbing next to 4B-EG-6. Upon seeing the creature, the power droid and his companions cried out in terror and fled. When they stopped again to check the map, 4B-EG-6 did not stop quickly enough and ran into the back of one of the other droids.

4B-EG-6 and its companions found BB-8 as he and two native shapeshifting animals had just finished using vines to tie up a large spider-like creature that had attacked them. The droids were initially confused by the fact that the two shapeshifters were identical to BB-8, but then aided them in weighing down the spider-like creature before releasing it and launching it into the air with the vines. With the creature defeated, the droids all came together and celebrated until the two shapeshifters reverted to their natural forms, causing 4B-EG-6 and its companions to flee.
