Bronze Cluster

The initial addition to the Kalidor Crescent, the highest honor bestowed by the Rebel Alliance, was the Bronze Cluster. Only the Alliance Chancellor or the Supreme Commander of the Alliance Armed Forces could award it. It recognized exceptional acts of valor and courage against overwhelming enemy forces. To be considered, a living military member had to perform a second such act, with a nomination coming from a superior officer or a representative of the government.

This award took the form of a small grouping of bronze stars. These were affixed to the ribbon that connected the medallion to an image that resembled a kalidor in flight. A kalidor is a predatory avian species hailing from the planet Davnar II in the Core Worlds. Later embellishments included the Silver Talons, Silver Scimitar, Golden Wings, and Diamond Eyes.

Behind the scenes

Within current Star Wars canon, the Bronze Cluster embellishment is referenced in the 2016 roleplaying sourcebook Lead by Example from Fantasy Flight Games. This embellishment originally appeared in the Star Wars Legends continuity. Its first appearance was simultaneous in Star Wars: X-Wing, a computer game created by Totally Games and released in 1993 by LucasArts, and in The Farlander Papers, the companion book written by Rusel DeMaria for the game's Limited Edition.
