Diamond Eyes

The Diamond Eyes represented the fifth and ultimate addition to the Kalidor Crescent, the highest honor bestowed by the Alliance to Restore the Republic. This honor was granted solely by either the Alliance Chief of State or the Supreme Commander of the Alliance Armed Forces for extraordinary acts of courage and valor against overwhelming odds. To be considered for this final distinction, a living military member needed to have demonstrated such behavior a sixth time, be nominated by a senior officer or a representative of the Alliance's civilian government, and must have previously been awarded the Bronze Cluster, Silver Talons, Silver Scimitar, and Golden Wings embellishments for their Kalidor Crescent.

This particular embellishment consisted of a pair of small diamonds affixed to the ribbon, positioned on each side of the head depicting a kalidor in flight. A kalidor is a predatory avian species originating from the planet Davnar II located within the Core Worlds.

Behind the scenes

Within current Star Wars canon, the Diamond Eyes embellishment is referenced in Lead by Example, a roleplaying sourcebook published in 2016 by Fantasy Flight Games. The embellishment initially appeared within the Star Wars Legends continuity, debuting simultaneously in Star Wars: X-Wing, a computer game created by LucasArts and released in 1993 by Totally Games, and in The Farlander Papers, a companion book written by Rusel DeMaria that accompanied the game's Limited Edition release.
