The Silver Scimitar constituted the third award level within the Kalidor Crescent system. This prestigious honor, the highest recognition bestowed by the Alliance to Restore the Republic, was exclusively granted either by the Alliance Chief of State or the Supreme Commander of the Alliance Armed Forces for acts of extreme bravery and valor when facing overwhelming odds. To be considered for this third level, a living military member needed to demonstrate a fourth instance of such courageous behavior, be nominated by a superior officer or a representative from the Alliance Civil Government, and must have already received both the Bronze Cluster and the Silver Talons as part of their Kalidor Crescent.
This particular embellishment took the form of a diminutive, polished silver sword. It was affixed to the ribbon above a representation of a kalidor in flight, which is an avian predator species native to the Core Worlds planet Davnar II. The preceding embellishments were the Bronze Cluster and Silver Talons, while the subsequent awards were the Golden Wings and the Diamond Eyes.
Within current Star Wars canon, the Silver Scimitar embellishment is referenced in Lead by Example, a roleplaying sourcebook released in 2016 by Fantasy Flight Games. The embellishment initially appeared in the Star Wars Legends continuity. Its debut occurred simultaneously in Star Wars: X-Wing, a computer game from LucasArts developed by Totally Games and released in 1993, and in The Farlander Papers, a companion book authored by Rusel DeMaria for the game's Limited Edition.
