Biography

During the [Clone Wars](/article/clone_wars], Cassilyda "Cassie" Cryar, a female Terrelian Jango Jumper hailing from Terrelia, engaged in thief-like activities within the underworld of Coruscant, a bustling planet. She found employment as both an assistant and bodyguard under Nack Movers, a Trandoshan hitman infamous for his murders committed using Sennari poison, and who evaded capture by the Coruscant Security Force. Movers shared an apartment with his girlfriend, Ione Marcy, a criminal of the Salenga species. Ironically, despite Movers' inherent distrust, he remained oblivious to the burgeoning partnership and intimate relationship between Marcy and Cryar. Disregarding Marcy's pleas, the lascivious Movers made unwanted advances toward Cryar, which led the two women to conspire against him.

Nack Movers failed to notice that Ione Marcy and Cassilyda Cryar had grown close and were plotting to poison him.

After Movers came into possession of Ahsoka Tano's stolen [lightsaber](/article/lightsaber], a Jedi Padawan's weapon, Cryar and Marcy used the same poison Movers employed on his victims to contaminate his drink. As the poison took effect, leading to his agonizing demise, his claws scratched across a painting depicting the trio. While Cryar and Marcy were still inside Movers' apartment pilfering its contents, Tano and Tera Sinube, a Jedi Master, discovered them. The Jedi had been interrogating Bannamu, the thief who had initially stolen and sold Tano's lightsaber. Cryar, utilizing her innate agility, managed to escape the apartment with the lightsaber, pursued by Tano across the skyline. Marcy also fled the apartment as the police arrived, using her speeder to rendezvous with Cryar. Their escape led them to a train station, where Cryar took hostages while Tano continued her pursuit on a hovertrain. After the train came to a halt, Cryar attempted to wield Tano's lightsaber, but Sinube easily disarmed her. The Jedi apprehended the couple, and they were subsequently taken into custody by the GU-series Guardian police droids.

Behind the scenes

Concept art of Cassie Cryar

Cassie Cryar made her debut in "Lightsaber Lost," an episode within the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, specifically as a component of the second season's Rise of the Bounty Hunters narrative arc in 2010. Jaime King provided the voice for the character, drawn to the role by Cryar's inherent strength. King does not view Cryar as inherently evil, suggesting she acts out of necessity for survival.

The design of Cassie Cryar is reminiscent of an early Sith concept created by Iain McCaig for the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.

Following the airing of "Lightsaber Lost," some viewers on platforms like the Jedi Council Forums noted what appeared to be romantic undertones between Cassie Cryar and Ione Marcy. In 2016, Pablo Hidalgo confirmed via his Twitter account that the characters were intentionally written as a couple. He further elaborated on this relationship in his 2018 reference book, Star Wars: Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious, explicitly solidifying their romantic connection and revealing Cryar's full first name as "Cassilyda."
