Chiss Senate

The legislative branch of the Chiss Ascendancy, known as the Chiss Senate, the Chiss parliament, or simply the Parliament, functioned as its ruling body. This Senate was composed of representatives from at least twenty-eight colony worlds within the Ascendancy. These representatives were senatorsHouse leaders chosen through democratic elections by the colonies themselves. All Chiss citizens had representation in the Senate, as did the four Ruling Families: Csapla, Nuruodo, Inrokini, and Sabosen. The House Palace, located in the city of Csaplar on the capital world of Csilla, served as the Chiss Senate's headquarters.

Description

Twenty-eight outlying Chiss colonies were represented in the Chiss Senate.

Serving as the ruling legislative organization of the Chiss Ascendancy was the Chiss Senate, alternatively named the Chiss parliament, or simply the Parliament. The Ascendancy's at least twenty-eight colony worlds each had representatives in the form of Chiss senators, who were House leaders democratically elected by their respective colonies. Representation in the Senate was afforded to every Chiss citizen, in addition to the four Ruling Families: Csapla, Nuruodo, Inrokini, and Sabosen.

For daily operational matters, the Senate would render decisions, but more intricate issues were delegated to the departmentalized Cabinet, which then directed significant concerns to the Ruling Families. The House Palace in Csaplar, a city found on Csilla, the Ascendancy's capital world, served as the location for the Chiss Senate's headquarters.

History

In the year 19 ABY, Commandant Gimald Nuruodo of the Syndic Mitth'raw'nuruodo training academy, situated on the Unknown Regions planet Rhigar, formally indicated to Empire of the Hand Commander Kres'ten'tarthi, whose core name was "Stent," that the Chiss Senate would find a certain action appropriate, according to Human cadet Jagged Fel.

By 25 ABY, the University of Sanbra published The University of Sanbra Guide to Intelligent Life, a book by sentientologist Tem Eliss, in which the Chiss Senate was described. In 27 ABY, Baron Soontir Fel of the Empire of the Hand, then stationed at the secret Cherith base on an inhospitable world, reminded his son, Colonel Jagged Fel, that the Chiss Senate disagreed with him regarding the potential impact of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion on the Chiss and Imperial territories located within the Unknown Regions. Jagged, expressing his disbelief, criticized the Chiss senators for being "tradition-bound" and Imperial politicians for their focus on "personal power," adding that Syndic Mitth'raw'nuruodo's Household Phalanx had never shared their views.
