Cioral

Cioral, a world of landmasses, existed as an astronomical body within the Chiss Ascendancy, a nation situated in the Unknown Regions. The year 18 BBY saw it functioning as the base of operations for one of the Ascendancy's esteemed Great Families: the Xodlak family. During that year, Senior Captain Xodlak'in'daro, whose core name was "Lakinda," held the position of commanding officer aboard the Chiss heavy cruiser Grayshrike within the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet's Picket Force Six. During a battle with a surviving segment of the Nikardun Destiny power structure, the Grayshrike sustained damage, thus delegating the final blows to the other warships within the picket force—namely, the heavy cruiser Springhawk and the Nightdragon man-of-war Vigilant. Although the battle concluded successfully, Lakinda anticipated that Cioral would view it unfavorably, since the impairment of her ship deprived both her and her family of the honor associated with vanquishing the adversary.

Description

Cioral, a terrestrial astronomical object, was situated geographically inside the Chiss Ascendancy nation, which itself resided within the Unknown Regions. The celestial body featured an atmosphere breathable by the Chiss sentient species.

History

In 18 BBY, Cioral served as the family seat for the Xodlak family, recognized as one of the Ascendancy's Great Families out of forty. During that year, Senior Captain Xodlak'in'daro, known by the core name "Lakinda," an officer within the navy of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet, oversaw the Chiss heavy cruiser Grayshrike as its commanding officer within Picket Force Six. During a battle waged against a surviving portion of the Nikardun Destiny, the heavy cruiser sustained damages, which forced it out of action, empowering the other warships in the picket force—the heavy cruiser Springhawk and the Nightdragon man-of-war Vigilant—to bring the battle to a conclusion. Even though the military action was successful, Lakinda anticipated that the Xodlak family on Cioral would perceive it as a failing, because the damage to her ship caused her, and thus the family, to miss out on the honor of defeating the enemy.

Following this clash, the Springhawk proceeded toward its designated mission, only to receive recall orders from the Syndicure, the governing body of the Ascendancy, to return to the capital planet of Csilla. Due to the warship being beyond communications range, Admiral Ar'alani, commander of the Vigilant, instructed Lakinda and the Grayshrike to pursue the Springhawk and relay the recall order to Csilla. While traveling to the destination, Lakinda felt that her family on Cioral would disapprove of her being removed from the task force to "play messenger."

Inhabitants

Since Cioral existed within the confines of the Chiss Ascendancy, it served as a home for a number of Chiss who were speaking Cheunh.

Behind the scenes

Within the current Star Wars canon, Cioral was initially referenced in the 2021 novel titled Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good, which formed the second entry in Timothy Zahn's Ascendancy Trilogy. In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the planet Cioral was mentioned within The Essential Atlas, a reference book from 2009 authored by Daniel Wallace alongside Jason Fry.
