Common cold
The illness known as the common cold, or simply cold, was something that wampas residing on Hoth could contract. Symptoms included a runny nose and frequent sneezing. Around or following 34 ABY, the Safari droid SF-R3, nicknamed "Aree," who belonged to the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts, was sent to Hoth to administer treatment to a wampa suffering from this common cold. Aree began by checking the wampa's temperature and then attempted various methods of applying heat, as this was the standard treatment for most species. Ultimately, Aree started a fire inside the wampa's cave, which resulted in the wampa sneezing. This sneeze dislodged snow from the cave ceiling, covering both the wampa and Aree. The immediate effect of the cold snow was to cure the wampa, leading Aree to the discovery that cold exposure was the proper remedy for wampas with the common cold.
Behind the scenes
The common cold made its debut in the fifth installment of the Star Wars Galaxy of Creatures webseries, specifically the "Wampa" episode, which was released on October 28, 2021. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, the first mention of the cold occurred in the sixty-first edition of the Marvel Star Wars comic book series. This issue was penned by David Michelinie and illustrated by Walt Simonson, who also provided the artwork, and it was published in July of 1982. The cold was initially featured in the Ewoks season two episode titled "Hard Sell," which aired on October 25, 1986.
