The ailment known as the common cold, or simply cold, was a malady that wampas residing on Hoth were susceptible to contracting. A symptom included the emission of nasal mucus from the afflicted wampa's nose, accompanied by frequent sneezing. Around or following 34 ABY, the Safari droid designated SF-R3, nicknamed "Aree," representing the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts, was deployed to Hoth with the specific purpose of providing medical care to a wampa suffering from this common cold. Aree, after initially measuring the wampa's temperature, attempted various methods of applying heat to the creature, as this was the standard therapeutic approach for the majority of species. Ultimately, Aree ignited a fire within the wampa's cave, which induced a sneeze from the wampa, subsequently causing snow to descend from the cave ceiling, covering both the wampa and Aree. The frigid temperature of the snow immediately brought about a cure for the wampa, leading Aree to the insight that exposure to cold constituted the correct treatment for wampas afflicted with the common cold.
The common cold made its initial appearance in the fifth installment of the Star Wars Galaxy of Creatures webseries, specifically "Wampa," which debuted on October 28, 2021. Within the Star Wars Legends narrative, the cold received its first mention in the sixty-first edition of the Marvel Star Wars comic book series. This particular issue, penned by David Michelinie and visually rendered by Walt Simonson, was released in July of 1982. Furthermore, the cold was depicted in the Ewoks season two episode entitled "Hard Sell," which aired on October 25, 1986.
