Desix City

Desix City was a settlement situated on the planet of Desix. Prior to the Clone Wars, Desix chose to secede and join the Confederacy of Independent Systems. After the establishment of the Galactic Empire, Desix's independence was not acknowledged, nor was the authority of its governor, Tawni Ames. Consequently, the Empire appointed a new governor for Desix. When the Imperial governor Grotton arrived to oversee the planet, Ames, along with her remaining Separatist forces, captured Grotton and his TK troopers. A team led by Clone Commander CC-2224, known as "Cody," successfully eliminated Ames and freed Grotton, which then enabled the Imperial occupation of Desix.

Description

The city fortress was surrounded by extensive farmlands where the citizens worked during the day

On the planet Desix, Desix City was a fortified and independent urban center. It occupied the summit of Governor's Mesa, encircled by tall, impenetrable defensive walls. The only way to enter or leave the city was through a sizable main gate. This gate connected to a bridge that linked the city to another mesa. This other mesa contained farmlands that provided sustenance for the city's inhabitants. The bridge served as a strategic point for the residents to impede or ambush any potential invaders. The city's main gate could be operated remotely, and a siren system was in place to alert the citizens to seek refuge inside the city during emergencies.

The streets inside the city consisted of narrow and dark passages

The urban environment of the city was characterized by its density, featuring confined and intricate passageways that posed navigational challenges. The residences were small and limited to a maximum of two stories. The bell tower stood as the tallest structure, overshadowing all other buildings in the city. This tower functioned as the command and control center for the fortress, from which Governor Tawni Ames governed and directed her forces. During the early period of the [Galactic Empire](/article/galactic_empire]'s rule, many buildings exhibited signs of rust. A significant portion of the city's population was employed in the farmlands.

History

Governor Ames took Grotton hostage upon the latter's arrival in the city

Following the conclusion of the Clone Wars and the establishment of the Galactic Empire, Governor Grotton was appointed by the Empire to govern Desix. He arrived aboard a Nu-class attack/transport shuttle accompanied by a TK stormtrooper squad to oversee the transfer of power. Upon the arrival of the Imperial shuttle, the city's siren was activated, prompting residents to return to their homes and secure their doors. Upon landing, Grotton and his squad met with the current Governor, Tawni Ames, to inform her of his appointment as her replacement. Because the Empire continued to deny the planet's independent status, Ames, aided by reprogrammed Separatist Droids, took them hostage.

After being informed about the hostage situation, Vice Admiral Rampart dispatched Clone Commander CC-2224 "Cody," CT-9904 "Crosshair," and a squad of clone troopers to the city under the pretense of seeking a diplomatic resolution. Aware that the clone troopers were sent to rescue Grotton, Ames instructed a T-series tactical droid to engage the shuttle. The droid complied, ordering the city's air strike team to attack the shuttle, causing it to crash in Sector Five on the outskirts of the city within the Farmlands.

The Nu-class shuttle carrying Cody's squad was taken down and crashed outside the city

Forced to proceed on foot to rescue Grotton, Commander Cody, Crosshair, and their squad engaged the reprogrammed Separatist Droids. They destroyed an Armored Assault Tank Mk I on the bridge before entering the main city. The squad divided into two teams, with Crosshair and Cody leading one team north and the other heading south. North Team successfully entered the bell tower, where they discovered Ames holding Grotton at blaster-point. Instead of killing Ames, Cody attempted to persuade her to seek a peaceful solution by relinquishing her weapon and releasing Grotton. Convinced, Ames released Grotton, who then ordered Cody to kill her. Unable to comply, Crosshair instead killed Ames, and Grotton ordered the clones to display her body in the city square as a warning against rebellion against the Empire.

The city on Desix under Imperial occupation

Despite the mission's success, the squad experienced significant losses. Following the incident, a Venator-class Star Destroyer arrived at the city, and numerous stormtroopers were deployed to occupy the planet. These soldiers, under Grotton's supervision, conducted searches of homes within the city. Distraught by the events that had unfolded, Cody departed with Crosshair and a group of clone troopers aboard a shuttle, leaving the planet.

Behind the scenes

Chris Madden's concept art of the city.

Desix City was initially featured in "The Solitary Clone," the third episode of the second season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, which was exclusively released on Disney+ on January 11, 2023. The initial concept art of Desix City was created by concept designer Chris Madden and was released alongside other concept art from the episode on StarWars.com on February 8, 2023. Madden's concept art depicted the city as a fusion of two partial circles, one larger and one smaller. The bell tower was situated in the larger section and was portrayed as one of the city's tallest structures, along with several column-shaped buildings. Adjacent to the city was a large mesa known as the Desix South field, connected to the city by a long bridge. Both the art and the episode showed all the upper surfaces in the city covered in sand. Molly Denmark was responsible for the city's lighting concept.
