In the year 3 BBY, amidst the early rebellion against the Galactic Empire, a fierce lightsaber confrontation unfolded in Hammertown, a district within Takobo City on the planet Takobo. The Jedi Kanan Jarrus and his Padawan Ezra Bridger clashed with two members of the Inquisitorius: the Fifth Brother and the Seventh Sister. Alongside fellow rebels Garazeb Orrelios and C1-10P, the two Jedi were on a mission to extract two Force-sensitive youngsters, Alora and Pypey, from the clutches of the Inquisitors. The Jedi found themselves trapped by the two Inquisitors, but their salvation arrived in the form of Commander Ahsoka Tano, who engaged both Inquisitors in a lightsaber duel before she and the other rebels made their escape from Takobo.
Back in 3 BBY, Ahsoka Tano, the former Jedi Padawan turned rebel commander, intercepted two sets of coordinates transmitted from the fiery world of Mustafar to the Inquisitors. This discovery alerted her to the fact that the Inquisitors were pursuing a hidden agenda beyond merely hunting down survivors of the Great Jedi Purge. Uncertain about the specifics of this secret mission, she sought the assistance of Kanan Jarrus, the Jedi operating undercover, and his apprentice Ezra Bridger. While she investigated the first set of coordinates on the planet Chandel, she deployed her rebel comrades to examine the second set, which led them to Hammertown on the planet Takobo.

On a wrecked starship orbiting Chandel, Ahsoka encountered a woman by the name of Darja. Darja's granddaughter, Alora, had been abducted by the Seventh Sister and the [Fifth Brother](/article/fifth_brother], two Inquisitors. Tano pledged to Darja that she would reunite her with her granddaughter. Meanwhile, Kanan, Ezra, Garazeb Orrelios, and Chopper journeyed to Hammertown aboard the Phantom. Upon arrival, they realized that the coordinates pointed to residential areas. Soon after, they encountered Oora, an Ithorian mother, who recounted how the Inquisitors had come to seize her son, Pypey. However, Oora had arranged for a droid to take her child to safety before they could reach him.
In the meantime, Zeb and Chopper located the TIE Advanced v1 starfighters belonging to the two Inquisitors within a concealed hangar at Takobo's spaceport. Inside one of the TIEs, they discovered the infant Alora. After liberating her, the two rebels proceeded to destroy the TIE fighters. While Chopper watched over Alora, Zeb received instructions from Kanan to retrieve Pypey. Zeb successfully located the droid and took custody of the Ithorian infant. Shortly thereafter, he was spotted and pursued by the Inquisitors. Zeb managed to find refuge in an apartment building and contacted Kanan and Ezra via comlink to arrange a meeting point.
Sensing Zeb's apprehension, the two Inquisitors scoured the apartment complex in search of the Lasat rebel. Simultaneously, Kanan and Ezra managed to locate the apartment and rendezvous with Zeb and Pypey inside one of the rooms. Ezra's presence triggered Pypey to cry, which inadvertently alerted the Inquisitors to their location. The Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister attempted to dislodge the rebels from the room using their lightsabers. However, the rebels managed to escape by cutting a hole through the ceiling, leading them to the apartment above. It was at this moment that Kanan realized the Inquisitors were abducting the two babies because of their Force-sensitive nature.
To ensure Pypey's safety, the rebels decided to separate. While Ezra took Pypey into a ventilation shaft, Kanan and Zeb resolved to confront the Inquisitors. Kanan also managed to buy some time by using his comlink to record Pypey's cries and planting it in another room. While the Inquisitors were temporarily misled, the Fifth Inquisitor utilized the Force to pinpoint Ezra and Pypey's location within the ventilation shaft. Ezra managed to calm the baby using the Force before the Inquisitor could strike them with his lightsaber.

Soon after, Kanan and Zeb arrived to face the Inquisitors head-on. This provided Ezra with the necessary time to sneak Pypey out of the building and make his way back to the spaceport. As Ezra exited the building, he inadvertently revealed Phoenix Cell's presence on Garel to a concealed ID9 seeker droid during a conversation with the baby. Meanwhile, Kanan engaged the Seventh Sister in a lightsaber duel, but he struggled to match the Inquisitor's agility. Zeb attempted to charge at the Fifth Brother, but the Inquisitor used the Force to send him hurtling backwards. Overwhelmed by the dark siders, the two rebels leaped out of a window and managed to land on a passing speeder.
The two Inquisitors followed the rebels out of the window and managed to seize control of a second speeder by ejecting the Ithorian driver. During the chase, Kanan managed to slow down the Inquisitors by firing at their vehicle. The Fifth Brother retaliated by throwing his lightsaber in a boomerang motion, severing one of the jets on Kanan and Zeb's speeder. Stranded, the two rebels were forced to abandon their vehicle and flee on foot towards the spaceport. There, they reunited with Ezra and Pypey. However, the rebels were unable to gain entry to the spaceport as the gates were sealed.
The Inquisitors quickly caught up with them. Kanan and Zeb attempted to resist, but the two Inquisitors used the Force to hurl them to the ground. The Seventh Sister then demanded that Ezra surrender Pypey. When the boy refused, she used the Force to throw him to the ground, causing Pypey to land on Ezra's chest. At that moment, the gates of the spaceport opened. Ahsoka emerged and confronted the Inquisitors. She was aware that the Inquisitors were hunting Force-sensitive infants. After instructing Ezra and the rebels to evacuate the youngling, she engaged the two dark siders in a lightsaber duel.

During the duel, Tano incapacitated the Fifth Brother while sparring with the Seventh Sister. Following a brief but intense exchange of blows, Tano deactivated her white-bladed lightsabers and feigned surrender. In response, the Seventh Sister lunged at the Rebel commander, but Tano skillfully grabbed, deactivated, and discarded the Inquisitor's lightsaber. Tano then used the Force to push the stunned Inquisitor into a pillar. The former Jedi then raised one of her blades at the Seventh Sister and declared that she had been defeated. The latter then laughed as Imperial reinforcements arrived in the form of Imperial troop transports. With the Fifth Brother regaining consciousness after his failed attack, they attempted to capture Ahsoka, with the Sister informing Tano that her capture would please Darth Vader.
Meanwhile, the rebels decided to depart with the rescued Alora and Pypey on the Phantom and pick up Ahsoka along the way. As she watched the Phantom leave the spaceport, Tano told the Inquisitors to inform Vader that he would have to wait. In response, the Brother hurled his weapon at Tano, who managed to dodge it before leaping aboard the Phantom. Imperial stormtroopers attempted to shoot down the auxiliary ship, but the rebels and Ahsoka managed to escape. Seeing Tano, the Rebels, and the children escape only angered the two Inquisitors since they had failed in their mission to capture the Force-Sensitive children.
After evading the Inquisitors, the rebels successfully reunited Pypey with his mother, Oora. While traveling through hyperspace, Ahsoka deduced that the Inquisitors were abducting the babies due to their Force-sensitive abilities. She informed her fellow rebels, Kanan and Ezra, that a Sith Lord had made a similar attempt during the Clone Wars, but his efforts had been thwarted by the Jedi. Now that the Jedi Order was gone, Kanan reasoned that the rebellion was the only entity left to safeguard the children. Despite failing to capture the babies and apprehend the rebels, the Inquisitors were pleased to learn that the rebels were hiding on Garel. Consequently, the Empire launched an attack on the planet in an attempt to eliminate the rebels.
The Duel in Hammertown was first seen as the dramatic conclusion of the Star Wars Rebels episode "The Future of the Force," which premiered on Disney XD on December 2, 2015.
