Dune-rat
A dune-rat represented a species of rat that made its home in burrows situated in desert environments.
During 9 BBY, a pair of Narkis Anchorites, located inside the Archive on the moon of Jedha, had a conversation about how Imperial patrols were disrupting the sleep of one of the anchorites each night. The other anchorite commented that, to the Empire, the Narkis Anchorites were like dune-rats: concealed and secure.
In 33 ABY, the scavenger Rey found herself in a fight with a pair of thugs who were trying to steal the materials she had scavenged on the planet of Jakku. After Rey used her quarterstaff to knock one of the thugs away, their fellow criminal threatened Rey, calling her a "dune-rat."
Behind the scenes
The initial reference to dune-rats occurred in "Better the Devil You Know, Part I," which served as the primary narrative in the first issue of the 2017 comic series titled Star Wars Adventures. IDW Publishing released the story on December 19, 2018. It was penned by Cavan Scott and visually rendered by Derek Charm.
