Ividal sector

The Ividal sector existed within the Mid Rim's territories. Within its boundaries lay the Ividal, Ongary, Tomark, and Uvadala systems. During the time of the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems seized control of the celestial body known as Ongary IX, transforming its hfredium mines into operational bases for droid starfighters.

As a countermeasure, the Galactic Republic, whose starfighter squadrons were occupied with operations near the astronomical object Uvadala, enlisted the Ividal Sector Forces' Foxfire Squadron to execute a series of bombing runs targeting the Separatist installations on Ongary IX. Following a successful bombing mission, the starfighters of Foxfire Squadron were transported back to their base on the astronomical object Ividal. Later, during the Galactic Civil War, the Rebel Alliance operated a starfighter base situated on the world Tomark II within the Ividal sector.

Description

The Ividal sector was situated within the Slice region of the Mid Rim. Around 0 ABY, it shared borders with the Sloo sector towards the Coreward direction, the Hertae sector towards the Rimward direction, and the Sevastol sector towards the spinward direction. Additionally, it formed a quadripoint with the Churba, Doldur, and Haserian sectors in the trailing direction.

The Tomark system was located in the westernmost area of the Ividal sector, while the Uvadala system was positioned in the sector's southernmost area. The Ividal and Ongary systems were located in the more northeastward regions. The Ividal and Uvadala systems included the astronomical objects Ividal and Uvadala, respectively. The Ongary system encompassed the terrestrial celestial body Ongary IX, and the Tomark system contained the terrestrial world Tomark II.

History

Clone Wars

During the era of the Clone Wars, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the Foxfire Squadron, a starfighter unit belonging to the Ividal Sector Forces, was stationed on Ividal. At some point during the war, the Confederacy set its sights on Ongary IX's natural deposits of hfredium, a metal essential for starship construction. After seizing the celestial body, the Separatists took control of the hfredium mines and converted them into operational bases for their Vulture droid starfighters.

The freighter Stellar Envoy visited the Ividal sector celestial body Ongary IX during the Clone Wars.

The Republic planned to eliminate the Confederacy bases on Ongary IX but could not allocate its starfighter squadrons, as they were already involved in a military operation near Uvadala. Therefore, the Republic Military recruited the Ividal Sector Forces, with Foxfire Squadron then undertaking multiple bombing runs against Confederacy targets located on Ongary IX.

The day following a successful bombing mission that resulted in the destruction of one of the Separatist bases, the starfighters of Foxfire Squadron were loaded onto a Republic Venator-class Star Destroyer for transport back to the forces' base at Ividal. However, due to his experiences during the Ongary IX attack, the pilot Jorn Kulish chose to resign from the service, instead departing the celestial body as a passenger aboard the Coreward-bound Republic Group freighter Stellar Envoy.

Galactic Civil War

During the Galactic Civil War, Chiron Base, a Rebel Alliance facility housing a squadron of starfighters used for hit-and-run attacks on Galactic Empire convoys, was situated on Tomark II. The galactic location of the world made it perfectly suited for staging such operations.

Eventually, the Empire suspected that Tomark was harboring an Alliance Military facility. By 0 BBY, it, along with several other worlds with unconfirmed potential Rebel presence, was listed as a high-priority target for the Imperial Death Star superweapon in an Imperial Military report entitled "IMQ-54544-XX-07 Security Clearance Black DS-1 Orbital Battle Station."

At some point during the Galactic Civil War, the Empire initiated a secret operation known as the Ando Project on the planet Ando in the Lambda sector. In response, Captain Amarith of Chiron Base eventually dispatched a team of agents from the Tomark II facility on a mission to investigate the Imperial operation.

Behind the scenes

The Ividal sector made its de facto first appearance in Star Wars Adventure Journal 11.

The Ividal sector was first mentioned in the StarWars.com Online Companion for the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, written by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry. In 2012, the sector was depicted on a map created by Modi and published in the Online Companion feature "Essential Atlas Extra: Sectors of the Mid Rim."

By placing the Tomark system, and therefore the world Tomark II, within the Ividal sector, The Essential Atlas Online Companion retroactively establishing the world's original appearance in "The Ando Project," a roleplaying game adventure written by Chris Doyle for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game and published in the eleventh issue of the Star Wars Adventure Journal in November 1996, as an implied appearance of the sector.

In "The Ando Project," the player characters travel from Ando to an Imperial facility on the Yucrales sector moon Uridia. If, after investigating the facility, the characters manage to escape it and leave the Uridia system, they return to Chiron Base on Tomark II, where they submit their mission report.
