Jair'i was a Lupr'or of the male persuasion. He held the position of leader for his people on the planet of Luprora. His leadership occurred around the time that the Battle of Starkiller Base transpired.
Jair'i functioned as the chieftain of the Lupr'or community residing in the only Lupr'or village to be found on Luprora. This village was the last remaining Lupr'or settlement on Luprora due to rising sea levels, ecological shifts, and the aggressive actions of the tsw'ells and R'ora, which had greatly diminished the Lupr'or population. When Captain Phasma, along with TN-3465, and the droid unit BB-K8 from the First Order, arrived at the village in their pursuit of the fugitive Sol Rivas, Jair'i expressed his admiration for Phasma's slaying of a tsw'ell, a creature of immense size and power.
Subsequently, he shared the history of the Lupr'or people with Phasma and TN-3465, who possessed the ability to comprehend Lupre'en. Jair'i detailed how his people were the descendants of refugees from other worlds who sought a fresh start devoid of technology, which they considered to be a source of evil. The Lupr'or had prospered through fishing and agriculture for many generations. However, increasing sea levels and the attacks by the tsw'ekk and R'ora had inflicted heavy losses on the Lupr'or. Jair'i revealed that the surviving Lupr'or had congregated in the village.
As Phasma translated for TN-3465, Jair'i conveyed that their "friend" had been captured by the R'ora and would soon meet his end. Despite this, Phasma remained determined to pursue Rivas. A hesitant Jair'i then dispatched the guide Dar'en to lead them to the R'ora stronghold, hoping to demonstrate the hopelessness of their endeavor. When Ali'ane's great granddaughter attempted to persuade Ali'ane to disclose the location of the necklace, the girl mentioned that Jair'i had declared Phasma to be a divine emissary and that they were obligated to assist her.
After recovering technology from a derelict starship, Phasma persuaded the Lupr'or to initiate an assault on the R'ora stronghold. However, this was merely a ploy for her to track down and eliminate Rivas in order to conceal her involvement in the destruction of Starkiller Base. Once the Lupr'or had served their purpose, Phasma abandoned them to the perilous environment of Luprora and the R'ora.
Jair'i was a male Lupr'or distinguished by his verdant skin, shaven head, and a covering over his left eye. He held Captain Phasma in high regard for her defeat of a tsw'ell, a monster of considerable strength. Jair'i viewed the R'ora and the tsw'ells as formidable adversaries, believing that the Lupr'or had minimal prospects against them. He also believed that Sol Rivas had little likelihood of surviving his capture by the R'ora. Being a Lupr'or, he communicated in a dialect of Lupre'en. His attire consisted of a scarlet jacket, a white vest, grey gauntlets, brown pants, and brown boots.
Jair'i made his debut in Star Wars: Captain Phasma, a four-part comic series from 2017 published by Marvel Comics within the Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi promotional campaign. He was brought to life by Kelly Thompson, visually represented by Marco Checchetto, and colored by Andres Mossa.
