Ka-Moon Kholi was among those in the Jedi Order who lived through both Order 66 and the subsequent years of the Great Jedi Purge during the Galactic Empire's reign. Not long after the hunt for Eeth Koth, Darth Vader and the Grand Inquisitor convened at the Inquisitorius Headquarters to examine a holographic roster of confirmed Jedi survivors who had successfully gone into hiding. Kholi's name appeared on this list, along with those of Coleman Kcaj, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Oppo Rancisis, and Selrahc Eluos.
The name Ka-Moon Kholi represents a tuckerization derived from the surname of Giuseppe Camuncoli, who worked as the penciller for Star Wars: Darth Vader (2017). Kholi's initial mention occurred within a hologram featured in the nineteenth issue of the comic series, which was authored by Charles Soule and released on August 8, 2018. Matt Martin later verified that both Kholi and Eluos, the latter being a tuckerization of Soule's complete name, were actual characters within the established canon continuity, rather than merely Easter eggs.
