Kand and Zand Roll




Kand and Zand Rolls were a type of aromatic bread, suitable for vegetarians, characterized by their sweet fragrance. Exhibiting a brown hue and an irregular texture, this foodstuff was crafted using zand nuts along with the fruit sourced from the kand tree. Both of these ingredients are native to Dorin, the original planet of the Kel Dor species within the Expansion Region.

During his galactic culinary expedition spanning from 34 ABY to 35 ABY, Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs made a visit to a Kel Dor orchard owner on Dorin. This individual had previously pledged to supply the chef with products from his orchard. Despite being taken by surprise, the Kel Dor furnished Tuggs with items such as zand nuts and kand tree fruit. The Artiodac then utilized these to prepare Kand and Zand Rolls. Subsequently, he incorporated the recipe for these rolls into his third cookbook, entitled The Ultimate Cookbook, which saw publication in 35 ABY. Within the pages of this book, he assured readers that, in contrast to the atmospheric conditions of Dorin, consuming the bread did not necessitate the use of a rebreather.

Behind the scenes

The recipe for Kand and Zand Rolls was developed for the 2023 publication, Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a culinary guide authored by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe instructions for creating this bread call for ingredients such as dry yeast, warm milk, all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cinnamon, kosher salt, allspice, a whisked egg, dried apricots, dried cranberry, chopped pecans, olive oil, and an egg yolk.
