Kanjiklub, also known as the Kanji Gang, was a well-known criminal syndicate that was active in the Outer Rim Territories. This group was operating around the time of the Galactic Civil War. As the First Order gained power, the organization was headed by Tasu Leech, a street brawler who held the title of topboss, along with his criminal lieutenants, initially Delphi Kloda and subsequently Razoo Qin-Fee.
Kanjiklub's story began with escaped slaves from the Hutts. The Kanjiklub fighters, also called "Kanjiklubbers" or "Kanjis," used improvised weapons to commit crimes and maintain control. This stood in sharp contrast to their main adversaries, the Guavian Death Gang. At one point, the pirate captain Sidon Ithano possessed a blaster rifle that had been taken as a trophy from a Kanjiklubber. Shortly before the Battle of Starkiller Base, Kanjiklub set aside their differences with the Guavians to confront Han Solo, a long-time smuggler, regarding unpaid debts. Leech met Solo and his first mate, Chewbacca, on Solo's ship, the Eravana. However, three dangerous rathtars were set loose, resulting in the deaths of Leech, his lieutenant Qin-Fee, Volzang Li-Thrull, Crokind Shand, Tolomar Reez, numerous Kanjiklub members, and at least three Guavian security soldiers, which allowed Solo and his associates to get away. Bala-Tik requested that someone inform the First Order that Solo possessed BB-8.
The actors who played the Kanjiklub were Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian, and Cecep Arif Rahman, Indonesian performers known for their roles in the highly acclaimed action films The Raid and The Raid 2. J.J. Abrams, the director of The Force Awakens, inquired about their availability, and was pleased to find that they were. He commented that their roles weren't large, but he was happy to have them in the movie.
