Tolomar Reez

A human hailing from the planet of Nar Kanji was Tolomar Reez, who found himself as a member of the criminal syndicate known as Kanjiklub, operating under the command of topboss Tasu Leech. The year 34 ABY saw him accompanying Leech, as well as several other members of the Kanjiklub and the Guavian Death Gang, as they boarded the Eravana, a freighter that belonged to the smuggler Han Solo; Solo was in debt to both of these dangerous organizations.

Leech and Bala-Tik, the frontman of the Death Gang, got into an argument with Solo in one of the freighter's passageways until a trio of deadly rathtars, which the smuggler had captured, launched an attack on both gangs. As he attempted to escape from the rathtars, Reez became separated from his comrades and encountered Solo, who responded by punching him in the face and then throwing him directly into the mouth of one of the rathtars.

Biography

Debt collecting

Tolomar Reez (far left) was a member of the Kanjiklub criminal outfit.

During the period of the Cold War between the First Order and the Resistance, Tolomar Reez, native to the planet of Nar Kanji, was a member of the criminal organization known as Kanjiklub. In 34 ABY, he joined four other members of the gang in accompanying their topboss, Tasu Leech, on a mission to locate Han Solo, a smuggler, in order to recover 50,000 credits that Solo had borrowed from Kanjiklub to finance his rathtar hunts. Leech formed an alliance with the Guavian Death Gang, another criminal enterprise to whom Solo was indebted, before confronting the smuggler. Together, both groups boarded Solo's Baleen-class heavy freighter, the Eravana, while it was positioned above the planet Jakku.

Reez, along with the other Kanjiklub members, proceeded through the corridors of the Eravana until they came across Solo and his Wookiee companion, Chewbacca, who were already engaged in a heated argument with Bala-Tik, the leader of the Death Gang, concerning their outstanding debts. Reez then stood in a threatening manner next to Leech as the head of Kanjiklub joined the discussion, which continued until Bala-Tik identified Solo's other companion, the astromech droid BB-8, as a wanted fugitive by the First Order.

Rathtar chow

A rathtar consumed Tolomar Reez aboard the Eravana.

Razoo Qin-Fee, Leech's lieutenant, gave the order for Kanjiklub to begin searching the freighter for a pair of fugitives associated with BB-8; however, the howls of three rathtars, which Solo had managed to capture, quickly diverted Reez's attention, as well as everyone else's in the corridor, away from the droid. The scavenger Rey, one of the two fugitives Kanjiklub was seeking, had inadvertently released the rathtars.

Subsequently, one of the rathtars charged into the corridor behind the Kanjiklub members, seizing two of them and forcing the remaining members to flee down another corridor to their right. During his escape, Reez became separated from his comrades and unexpectedly encountered Solo. As Reez rounded a corner, the smuggler punched him in the face, grabbed him by his torso, and then forcibly hurled him directly into the mouth of a rathtar that had been pursuing Solo, Chewbacca, and BB-8. The rathtar consumed Reez completely, ejecting only one of his boots.

Personality and traits

Reez was a human male, characterized by his tan skin and black hair.

Equipment

Reez was equipped with a brown suit of armor worn over a yellow tunic, along with a helmet that featured goggles to shield his eyes. While aboard the Eravana, he carried a boiler rifle.

Behind the scenes

Tolomar Reez made his debut appearance in the 2015 sequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. The actor who portrayed him was not credited, and the character was not given a name in the film. However, he was identified by the video game Disney Infinity 3.0, which was released in conjunction with The Force Awakens. Despite the game's non-canon status, Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo verified that the names provided by the game for previously unidentified characters, including Reez, were considered canon. In the game, all basic Kanjiklub enemies share his appearance.

In the novelization of The Force Awakens, written by Alan Dean Foster, the narrative describes Han Solo hurling a member of the Guavian Death Gang into the mouth of a rathtar rather than Reez. In the 2022 non-canon video game LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Reez appears in the mission "Reap What You Solo," an adaptation of the events on the Eravana from The Force Awakens.

He is shown wielding a pair of knives, rather than a rifle, when Kanjiklub first confronts Solo, but he later uses a rifle when attacking the smuggler and his allies in the hangar where Solo's YT-1300 light freighter, the Millennium Falcon, is parked. After the players defeat Reez, he then reappears in the hangar alongside fellow Kanjiklub member Crokind Shand, as well as Bala-Tik and several Guavian security soldiers. The force of the Falcon's engines, as it takes off from the hangar, blows the entire group to the floor.
