Len Markus

Len Markus held a position as one of the lieutenants under Nirama. While not second-in-command, he served as a representative for the smugglers within Nirama's organization, giving him a degree of influence within the Organization. He operated discreetly, exerting control from behind the scenes and primarily issuing directives to the smugglers.

Although not a true albino, Len Markus possessed a very pale complexion, giving him a similar appearance. He would intentionally choose light-colored attire to emphasize his paleness or opt for dark clothing to blend into the surroundings. Markus possessed a charming smile and a highly personable demeanor. While he didn't inspire genuine trust, he skillfully created the illusion of trusting others, even when he didn't. He was known for his duplicity, shifting allegiances and stances, and generally behaving as one would expect of a criminal lieutenant. Nirama found Markus's attempts to curry favor with delicacies from across the galaxy amusing. Despite this, Nirama placed trust in Markus, even during times of crisis when trust was a scarce commodity.

Biography

In 32 BBY, Arraxx, Nirama's skilled pilot, found himself racing across the moon of Eskaron. During this race, Arraxx inadvertently crossed paths with a private competition between Blood Raptors member Gael Kinner and ambitious entrepreneur Teeloo. To avoid a collision, Kinner fired upon Arraxx's ship, resulting in its destruction. This incident caused Nirama to lose money and assets, and he became visibly angry in front of people he respected. Enraged, Nirama instructed Markus to retrieve both Kinner's and Teeloo's ships, along with their respective crews, without causing any damage. Markus assembled a team consisting of five Human thugs, two Trandoshans, and one Twi'lek, and tracked the racers to Tolea Biqua. Arriving in a menacing raven-black Z-95 Headhunter, he intimidated them, held a private discussion with Teeloo, and ultimately kidnapped all of them, transporting them to Nirama's mansion in Mikish. At the time, he could not have imagined the severity of the punishment for such an act.

Markus informed Nirama of the arrival of the offenders and remained present during Nirama's interrogation of each group. After Nirama concluded his questioning of the Raptors, Markus offered their personal belongings and weapons to Teeloo's allies, as the Raptors were no longer in a condition to use them. Nirama requested Teeloo to stay longer than his crew, and Markus did his best to reassure the crew, convincing them that Nirama had already vented his anger on the Raptors and would not harm Teeloo. Markus's assessment proved accurate, as Nirama was in the process of hiring Teeloo at that point.

Months later, Markus accompanied Nirama to his primary weapon storage facility, Rothe Gate. Nirama decided to visit the facility after receiving a lead regarding his missing employee, Jobril, which he believed was linked to The Cell, a dissident faction within his Organization that opposed Nirama's leadership. Nirama intended to meet with individuals who possessed information on these matters. He delivered a speech with Markus standing to his left, and then commenced a series of private meetings. Markus remained stationed at the door, diligently screening each incoming person for potential threats. During these meetings, The Cell launched an assassination attempt on Nirama, but Markus and other employees successfully defended the crime lord.

Eventually, Markus learned of the Darkstaff and embarked on a quest to locate it. After finding it, he was pursued by heroic individuals from the Cularin system. As Markus flew over the Almas Sith fortress while carrying the Darkstaff, the fortress unleashed a powerful blast of Force lightning, engulfing his ship. Len Markus, the Darkstaff, and his ship vanished without a trace. Simultaneously, the entire Cularin system disappeared from the galaxy, only to reappear suddenly almost a decade later with no apparent passage of time within the system.

Len Markus was presumed missing, leading Nirama to promote Nadin Paal to fill the resulting vacancy. However, Markus was alive and well, although the Darkstaff had sustained damage during the attack. Seeking to repair the Darkstaff, Markus contacted Chevin slaver Phylus Mon. Markus proposed that Phylus Mon travel to Almas and employ Sith rituals to repair the Darkstaff. In exchange, Markus offered Phylus Mon the secret of the Sith battlelord rituals. Phylus Mon accepted the offer, as these rituals would enable him to command an enslaved army.
