A Mon Calamari scientist, specifically a female named Luen, was induced to return to Dac following the Sith genocide due to reports indicating Dac's revival. The former Mon Calamari and Quarren inhabitants were deceived by Darth Luft and a band of pirates, who sought to press-gang them into constructing a pirate ship fleet. During their period of captivity, Luen and her Quarren colleague Tikin crossed paths with Ania Solo, a junk dealer, and Jao Assam, an Imperial Knight, who were in pursuit of another rogue Sith known as Darth Wredd. During an attempted escape, the group found themselves launched in an escape pod onto the poisoned ocean of Dac. Subsequently, Solo's companions, Sauk, a Mon Calamari, and AG-37, an assassin droid, rescued them. Following the liberation of the Mon Calamari Shipyards by the Galactic Federation Triumvirate, Luen took in Tilin, the son of the late Tikin, and they made their home in the flooded Mon Calamari shipyards.

As an environmental engineer from Mon Calamari, Luen, a female, lived through the era of the Second Imperial Civil War and survived the Mon Calamari Genocide that was inspired by the One Sith. By the year 138 ABY, Luen was part of the significant diaspora of Mon Calamari and Quarren who were living as refugees away from their homeworld, Dac, due to the continued poisoning of its oceans by viral spores. After the One Sith were defeated, the newly formed Galactic Federation Triumvirate faced numerous significant obstacles in the galaxy's reconstruction, one of which was the resettlement of millions of displaced Mon Calamari and Quarren refugees, many of whom were living in extreme poverty.
Luen eventually received information about a "renewed" Dac, indicating a need for various workers to help rebuild society on the poisoned planet. With her valuable skills as an environmental engineer and a desire to contribute, Luen joined a large group of Mon Calamari and Quarren refugees in their return to Dac, hoping to realize this vision. However, the promise of a "renewed Dac" was a deception orchestrated by the rogue Sith Darth Luft and his pirate accomplices, who intended to enslave a workforce of Mon Calamari and Quarren to construct a fleet of pirate starships. Upon arrival, Luen and the other refugees were imprisoned within the Mon Calamari Shipyards orbiting Dac and forced into building warships for the pirates. To ensure compliance, the pirates held their dependents and elderly relatives hostage. Throughout their imprisonment, the enslaved workers suffered routine beatings and mistreatment at the hands of their pirate captors.

During her imprisonment, Luen developed a friendship with a Quarren named Tikin whose wife had been murdered by the pirates; Tikin's son, Tilin, was also held captive. In 138 ABY, Tikin and Luen were confronted by Jao Assam, an Imperial Knight, and Ania Solo, a junk dealer. The pair were on a mission to track down Darth Wredd, another rogue Sith, who had initiated an insurgency against the One Sith. Mistaking Solo and Assam for pirates due to their disguises, Luen drew a knife and attempted to defend herself. However, Assam diffused the situation by revealing his identity as an Imperial Knight and his intention to help them. When Solo inquired about the situation at the Mon Calamari Shipyards, Luen explained their predicament, detailing how they had been lured by false promises and hope.
After hearing Luen's account, Jao Assam instructed his communications droid to transmit a distress signal to the Galactic Triumvirate authorities on Coruscant, informing them of the pirate presence in the Calamari system. Tikin also disclosed the situation with the hostages, but their conversation was interrupted by a group of armed pirates who chased them through the shipyard's hangars.
At the end of a tunnel, Luen, Tikin, and their rescuers were trapped by Darth Luft and his associates. After Luft confirmed that Darth Wredd was not in the Calamari system, as his deceased henchman Dieben had misled Solo and Assam to believe, Luft cast the group of four into an escape pod and launched it towards Dac. Darth Luft intended to eliminate his unwanted guests in the poisoned oceans of Dac, where even a single drop could be fatal. The waters of Dac were filled with the remains of countless sentient beings and animals that had perished during the Genocide's final stages. As their escape pod descended into the poisoned depths of Dac's oceans, Luen remarked on their slim chances of survival, given that the escape pod was only designed to withstand atmospheric pressures. In response, a despondent Tikin told Luen to be quiet. Assam's Imperial comm droid managed to reconfigure his antennae to transmit a distress signal to Solo's friends, the assassin droid AG-37 and the Mon Calamari engineer Sauk, who promptly traveled to Dac in their freighter.
As the escape pod continued its descent into Dac's oceans, Luen noted that they would soon enter the aphotic zone, the part of the ocean where sunlight cannot reach. When Luen wondered if the ship's hull could withstand the oceanic pressure, Tikin simply responded that he preferred not to know. Solo attempted to take control of the escape pod's directional thrusters. However, Tikin revealed that the pirates had forced them to remove all propulsion systems from the pods for use in their new fleet. Tikin and his companions were rescued by Sauk and AG-37, who extracted their escape pod from Dac's oceans and used AG-37's freighter to tow it into an abandoned section of the Mon Calamari Shipyards.
Once aboard the space station, Luen and Tikin met Sauk and AG-37 and further discussed the conditions in the shipyard. A disagreement quickly arose between Jao Assam and Ania Solo regarding how to address the threat posed by the pirates and Darth Luft. While Assam wanted to confront the Sith immediately, Solo insisted on departing and waiting for reinforcements. Tikin strongly opposed Assam's plan due to the risk to his son's life. Concerned about his son and unwilling to provoke Darth Luft, Tikin returned to the shipyards to plead for his son's life; however, the Sith killed Tikin. Meanwhile, Luen joined Solo and her companions aboard AG-37's freighter.

Luen was present on AG-37's freighter during a joint assault by the Fel Empire and the Galactic Alliance on the pirate-occupied Mon Calamari Shipyards. Yalta Val, Jao Assam's mentor, and Admiral Gar Stazi had been informed of the pirate presence on Dac by Jao Assam. The assembled force of warships, seatroopers, and Imperial Knights attacked the shipyards, eliminating the pirate starfighter and pirate droid defenses. During the battle, the Alliance tanker Trand Cappa flooded the orbital shipyards with seawater, overwhelming the pirates and allowing the Mon Calamari and Quarren slaves to gain control over their captors. Under Darth Luft's orders, the pirates exposed the detention blocks housing the slaves' relatives to the vacuum of space, resulting in the deaths of several Mon Calamari and Quarren civilians. Luen witnessed the formation of an ice plume outside the detention block's space doors, which sealed the hold and prevented further casualties. There was a limited opportunity to rescue the captives; Luen, Solo, and Sauk attempted to close the space doors but were unable to due to the ice-covered controls. Instead, they guided the Mon Calamari and Quarren refugees out of the chamber as the frozen plume began to crack. Solo managed to use Assam's comm droid to access the shipyards' control bay and remotely shut the doors, saving numerous Mon Calamari and Quarren.

Following the liberation of the Mon Calamari Shipyards, Luen and the surviving Mon Calamari and Quarren refugees established a new community within the flooded interiors of the shipyards. Luen also adopted Tikin's son, Tilin, as a sign of respect; despite never envisioning herself as a parent, Luen embraced her role as Tilin's foster parent and adopted the title "Aunt." Luen also encouraged Sauk to settle with their fellow Mon Calamari in the shipyards. Recognizing Sauk's qualifications as an engineer, Luen emphasized that the shipyard could benefit from the expertise of several top-notch engineers to improve the shipyards' habitability. There was also news that several Whaladons, another sentient species native to Dac, were planning to reside in the shipyards. However, Sauk politely declined Luen's offer, explaining that his friends needed him elsewhere. Luen and Tilin settled into their new home, confident that the threat posed by Darth Luft and his pirate associates had been eliminated.

Luen, a marine engineer by training, was a Mon Calamari with blue skin. Like many Mon Calamari and Quarren, Luen was deeply affected by the Mon Calamari Genocide and the destruction of Dac. Despite the challenges, Luen maintained hope for a restored Dac, free from viral spores. Although she had not previously considered raising children, Luen displayed compassion by adopting and raising Tilin, the orphaned son of Tikin, after his father's death at the hands of Darth Luft.
Luen's initial appearance was in the eighth issue of the Star Wars: Legacy Volume 2 comic series. The issue was penned by Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman, illustrated by Brian Albert Thies, and released by Dark Horse Comics on October 23, 2013.
