Liberation of Mon Calamari Shipyards

The clash known as the Liberation of the Mon Calamari Shipyards unfolded in 139 ABY. It pitted Darth Luft's pirate forces against a Galactic Federation Triumvirate task force. The battleground was a shipyard complex orbiting the world of Dac. While pursuing the renegade Sith Darth Wredd, the scavenger Ania Solo and Imperial Knight Jao Assam stumbled upon Darth Luft, another rogue Sith, and his pirate gang. They had established a slave operation within the Mon Calamari Orbital Shipyards above Dac, a world left devastated by the Second Imperial Civil War. Jao Assam alerted his superior, Yalta Val, who then persuaded Admiral Gar Stazi of the Galactic Federation Triumvirate to initiate a rescue mission for the enslaved Mon Calamari and Quarren.

A joint force composed of the Galactic Alliance Navy and Imperial Knights was deployed to assault the Mon Calamari shipyards. During the conflict, the Galactic Alliance Navy strategically used the tanker Trand Cappa to flood the shipyards, effectively neutralizing the pirate threat. Following this, Imperial Knights and seatroopers moved in to liberate the shipyards and capture the pirates. Ania Solo and her allies played a crucial role by sealing off sections of the shipyards, saving numerous Mon Calamari and Quarren slaves. In a personal confrontation, Jao Assam engaged and defeated Darth Luft in a duel. In the aftermath, the freed Mon Calamari and Quarren found refuge in the flooded shipyards. However, Jao and Ania soon realized that their actions had inadvertently aided Darth Wredd's agenda by eliminating Darth Luft, bringing him closer to his objective of dismantling the One Sith and reinstating the Rule of Two.

Background

Enslaved Mon Calamari and Quarren join forces to oust the pirates

During the Genocide on Dac, which occurred in 137 ABY, Vul Isen, a scientist affiliated with the One Sith, unleashed a lethal viral spore that contaminated the oceans of the planet Dac. This resulted in the death of billions of inhabitants within a matter of weeks. The Galactic Alliance and the Fel Empire successfully conducted an evacuation operation, rescuing millions of Mon Calamari, Quarren, and Whaladons. However, the planet was left uninhabitable. The poisoning of Dac led to a massive displacement of Mon Calamari and Quarren refugees, who sought refuge on various neighboring worlds and systems. Following the defeat of Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire, the newly formed Galactic Federation Triumvirate took steps to resettle many of the displaced Quarren and Mon Calamari refugees.

In the aftermath of the Dac Genocide, the Calamari system became a haven for criminal elements. In 138 ABY, a Sith Lord by the name of Darth Luft, along with his pirate associates, initiated a shipbuilding enterprise in the abandoned Mon Calamari Orbital Shipyards. To secure a workforce for their shipyards, Darth Luft and his pirate accomplices disseminated false information to the refugee communities, claiming a project to revitalize Dac. Many Mon Calamari and Quarren refugees fell prey to this deception. Upon arrival at the Mon Calamari Shipyards, the adults were coerced into working as shipbuilders for the pirate fleet. To ensure compliance and prevent dissent, Luft and his pirates held their family members hostage, threatening to expose them to the vacuum of space. The enslaved Mon Calamari and Quarren refugees were subjected to regular beatings and mistreatment by their captors.

Following the Carreras Incident, Jao Assam, an Imperial Knight, experienced a Force vision indicating that the rogue Sith Darth Wredd was plotting to assassinate Marasiah Fel, the Galactic Empress. Teaming up with Ania Solo, a junk dealer, and an Imperial comm droid, Jao embarked on a mission to locate and neutralize Darth Wredd. Their investigation led them to Dieben, one of Wredd's subordinates, on the planet Nalyd. There, they discovered that Dieben had been planning to meet with "some powerful friends" within the Calamari system. Suspecting Darth Wredd's presence in the Calamari system, Jao and Ania journeyed there. Upon their arrival, they uncovered Darth Luft's slave labor operation in the Mon Calamari Shipyards.

Jao and Ania successfully established contact with Luen and Tikin, enslaved Mon Calamari environmental engineers, and learned the full scope of Darth Luft's pirate activities. Jao utilized his Imperial comm droid to transmit a distress signal to Yalta Val, his mentor stationed on Coruscant and the master of the Imperial Knights training facility. However, Darth Luft and his pirates discovered Jao, Ania, and their guides, resulting in their confinement within an escape pod and subsequent ejection into the toxic oceans of Dac. Fortunately, Sauk, a Mon Calamari engineer, and AG-37, an assassin droid, rescued Jao and Ania from Dac's waters. Following their rescue, Jao expressed his desire to confront Darth Luft in hopes of finding Darth Wredd. However, Ania, Sauk, and AG-37 disagreed, preferring to return to AG-37's freighter and await reinforcements. Meanwhile, Tikin, unwilling to jeopardize his young son Tilin, returned to the shipyards. Unable to reach a consensus, they parted ways.

Simultaneously, Yalta Val received information regarding the pirates' slave operation in the Calamari system. He attempted to persuade the Galactic Triumvirate leadership to intervene, but his efforts were thwarted by Empress Fel, who dismissed Jao Assam's concerns due to his perceived desertion. Nevertheless, Gar Stazi, an Admiral, was deeply concerned about the plight of the Mon Calamari and Quarren slaves and discussed his concerns with Yalta. Ultimately, the two men decided to assemble a force to confront the pirates and liberate the slaves. Stazi and Yalta gathered a fleet of warships, Imperial Knights, and seatroopers. Back at the Mon Calamari Shipyards, Tikin informed Luft about the presence of intruders, hoping the Sith Lord would release his son. However, Luft murdered Tikin and disposed of his body within the shipyard. Regrettably, Luft's actions ignited a slave rebellion, with the slaves attacking their captors. The arrival of Imperial Knight Jao Assam reinvigorated the Mon Calamari and Quarren slaves.

The Battle

Unable to reconcile their differing views with Jao and Tikin, Ania, along with Luen, AG-37, and Sauk, departed from the hangar bay but were pursued by pirate starfighters and pirate droids. However, a Galactic Triumvirate task force emerging from hyperspace destroyed their pursuers. Under Admiral Stazi's command, the tanker Trand Cappa docked with the shipyard's ring and unleashed a massive torrent of water, inundating the shipyards. The flood overwhelmed the pirates, enabling the Mon Calamari and Quarren slaves to gain the advantage over their captors. Subsequently, Imperial Knight Yalta Val led a boarding party consisting of Imperial Knights and seatroopers, who apprehended the pirates. Simultaneously, Imperial Knight Jao engaged Darth Luft in a lightsaber duel.

Refusing to admit defeat, the pirates opened the detention blocks holding the Mon Calamari and Quarren dependents and elderly to the vacuum of space. However, the reaction between the water and the vacuum created an ice plume, temporarily sealing the exits. Ania and her crew seized this opportunity to dispatch the Imperial comm droid to manipulate the controls and seal the doors. Through their efforts, Ania's crew managed to save the lives of numerous Mon Calamari and Quarren children and elderly. Meanwhile, Darth Luft utilized the Force to trap Jao beneath a heavy piece of debris. Luft was then attacked by two Imperial Knight cadets who attempted to fight him. However, Jao managed to free himself from the wreckage and used the Force to impale the rogue Sith with his lightsaber, ending Darth Luft's life.

Aftermath

Following the liberation of the Mon Calamari shipyards, Yalta Val's stormtroopers transported the captured pirates onto a vessel. Meanwhile, the surviving Mon Calamari and Quarren refugees established settlements within the flooded compartments of the Mon Calamari shipyards. Out of compassion, Aunt Luen adopted Tikin's young son, Tilin. Luen attempted to persuade Sauk, Ania's Mon Calamari crewmate, to remain, but he declined, preferring the companionship of his friends. There were also reports of several Whaladons planning to inhabit the flooded shipyards. Jao Assam also had a brief reunion with his mentor, Yalta Val, who attempted to convince the younger Knight to return to his post. However, Jao remained committed to locating Darth Wredd. Despite their disagreements, the two men parted amicably.

Later, Jao and Ania's crew departed aboard AG-37's freighter. While traveling through hyperspace, Jao received a hologram recording from his target, Darth Wredd. Wredd revealed that he had deliberately led them on a carefully orchestrated trail throughout the galaxy. By eliminating Darth Luft, Jao had inadvertently advanced Wredd's plan to destroy the One Sith and reinstate the Rule of Two. Wredd also attempted to entice Jao with an offer of a position within his new Sith Order. While Jao was disheartened to learn that he had unknowingly aided Wredd in achieving his objectives, Ania reassured him that they had liberated the Mon Calamari Shipyards and saved countless Mon Calamari and Quarren lives. She reasoned that if they could accomplish this, they were capable of defeating an "arrogant" Sith like Wredd.
