Luu, a man, played a significant role in the upbringing of both Sana and Phel Starros. He assisted the siblings' father during the Imperial Era on the Outer Rim moon of Nar Shaddaa. Later, he and the Starros' father chose to retire on Dalna, a planet in the Outer Rim. Sometime between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, Sana shared the location of her parents with her cousin, Aryssha Starros. She later expressed regret about visiting her family's homestead on Hosnian Prime, a Core Worlds planet, instead of visiting her fathers.

During the Imperial Era, Luu was a male individual. He encountered Sana Starros' father after the death of Jorinda, the human Sana Starros' mother, which occurred around 11 BBY. Luu then became a second parent to Sana and her twin brother, Phel Starros, helping to raise them on the Outer Rim moon of Nar Shaddaa alongside other family members. Sana eventually departed Nar Shaddaa to attend the University of Bar'leth, which prompted Phel to join the Galactic Empire, an action that most of his family considered a betrayal. Luu and Starros' father stayed on Nar Shaddaa for a time, eventually relocating to the Outer Rim planet of Dalna to retire.

While visiting the family's homestead on the Core Worlds planet Hosnian Prime between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, Sana engaged in a conversation with her cousin, Aryssha Starros, regarding her parents. Aryssha, who was expecting twins, expressed her desire to raise her children independently, mirroring Sana's father's situation after Jorinda's passing. Sana, however, reminded her cousin that Luu had been instrumental in raising her and Phel after their mother's death.
Shortly after, Sana expressed regret for choosing to visit the homestead instead of her fathers, feeling resentful about being unknowingly involved in recovering Avon's journals, a family heirloom that Phel had stolen from their family compound. During this event, Thea Starros, the family's matriarch, was taken captive by Phel, who had become an Imperial officer, during a skirmish on Hynestia, a Colonies planet. Aboard the Imperial Raider-class corvette King's Ransom, Thea reprimanded Phel for his actions against his family, emphasizing that his fathers had instilled better values in him.
Sana held affection for her adoptive father and was open to the prospect of visiting her fathers during their retirement on Dalna. Thea acknowledged Luu's parenting abilities, telling Phel that his dads had raised him with better morals than his current behavior displayed when he captured her.
The character of Luu was initially introduced in the first issue of Star Wars: Sana Starros, a comic-book series penned by Justina Ireland and released by Marvel Comics on February 1, 2023.
