Marauder Reconnaissance Armor, alternatively called Recon Marauder Armor, represented a type of armor fashioned by the Sanyassan Marauders originating from the Forest Moon of Endor.
As the designation implies, Marauder Reconnaissance Armor was a form of reconnaissance armor, favored for its lightness, affordability, and the range of movement it allowed. Typically, this armor was constructed from any available pliable materials possessing some degree of protective capability. Consequently, its effectiveness varied considerably, contingent on the specific materials employed and the proficiency of the armorsmith. Common materials utilized in the armor's construction encompassed scaly hides, polymer, and panels made of fiber and fiberplast. A standard complete set of this armor consisted of a helmet, a chest plate, left and right bicep pieces, left and right bracers, gloves, leggings, and boots. It was manufactured in an assortment of different colors.
Besides the Recon Marauder Armor, two other Marauder armor variants existed: Marauder Battle Armor and Marauder Assault Armor. These armors, along with the Recon Marauder Armor, were first created by the Sanyassan Marauders, a group of Sanyassan pirates who became marooned on the Forest Moon of Endor around 100 BBY. Their leader was King Terak, the Sanyassan warlord who commanded the pirates from their stronghold. Before his death around 3.5 ABY, Terak was known to wear a full suit of bronze-colored Marauder Reconnaissance Armor, although he did not wear the gloves or helmet. Terak was not the sole Marauder to utilize this armor. Fightmaster Jorak wore Recon Marauder Armor leggings and bracers, while the scholar Szingo wore the bracers and chest plate. Similarly, the Sanyassan Rydel Delan, although not a member of the Marauders, also utilized the armor's chest plate and bracers.
Around 1 ABY, entities other than the Sanyassan Marauders had begun to adopt the recon armor. Trandoshan captains belonging to the Blackscale Clan, stationed on the Avatar Orbital Platform, were outfitted with nearly complete sets of the armor. In their Tatooine offices, security forces employed by the White Thranta Shipping Company incorporated Recon Marauder Armor Helmets as part of their standard uniforms. Likewise, Wilders and Marauders of the Blackguard, a collective of Force wielders residing in the Southern Jedi Ruins located on Mustafar, also used the armor. Recon Marauder Armor also saw use among spacers during the time of the Galactic Civil War. King Terak gifted portions of the armor to one particularly loyal servant. Elsewhere on Endor, a trader encountered Macchbraus, a Sanyassan armorsmith. Macchbraus, having been ostracized by his fellow Marauders, consented to share the secrets of manufacturing Assault and Recon Marauder Armor in return for instruction on creating other armor types commonly worn by offworlders, including bone, composite, Mabari and padded armor.
Marauder Reconnaissance Armor made an appearance in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that was developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, before the game's shutdown on December 15, 2011. Initially, the Marauder recon armor was exclusively worn by Marauder non-player characters in the game's initial release. Later, the armor was made craftable and wearable by players with the release of "Game Update 5," which occurred on July 29, 2008.
