MC95B

The MC95B designated a class of Star Cruiser from Mon Calamari that saw action in the latter portion of the conflict war between the First Order and the Resistance. A significant number of these vessels belonged to the Citizens' Fleet, a massive fleet comprising 14,000 ships that engaged the Sith Eternal forces during the Battle of Exegol.

Description

An MC95B

The MC95B was a Star Cruiser designed by the Mon Calamari. A defining feature of the MC95B was its hyperdrive, which enabled it to enter hyperspace at lightspeed. It also possessed a minimum of eight sublight engines. On the port and starboard aft sections were two dual engines, while at the rear, four larger engine units were arranged in a square. Powerful strikes of Force lightning had the capability to disable the Star Cruiser. Consistent with other Mon Calamari ship designs, the MC95B displayed a bulbous hull composed of diverse modules, and uniquely, featured two angled diagonal canards at the ship's bow, alongside a prominent dorsal fin positioned near the rear midship and a smaller fin in the ventral section towards the rear. The ship's bridge was situated in the forward command section near the bow. A bridge tower was also present at the vessel's rear. Furthermore, the Star Cruiser was armed with laser cannons and incorporated two hangars on the port and starboard sides of its hull.

Role

Being a capital ship, the Star Cruiser was equipped to participate in naval warfare.

History

MC95B Star Cruisers were actively used during the war between the First Order, a military government that followed the collapse of the Old Galactic Empire, and the Resistance, a paramilitary group with origins in the disbanded Rebel Alliance and the defunct New Republic. In the year 35 ABY, General Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca, heroes of the Rebel Alliance and New Republic, were sent on the Millennium Falcon to gather support from the citizens of the galaxy to bolster the Resistance. The Resistance had journeyed to the ancient Sith stronghold world of Exegol to confront the rising Sith Eternal, who had formed an alliance with the First Order, and to protect the galaxy from their dominion.

The 14,000 strong citizens' fleet contained many of the MC95Bs.

As the Resistance faced near defeat and sustained significant casualties, a massive Citizens' Fleet of 14,000 vessels from across the galaxy materialized at Exegol and took part in the Battle of Exegol, which included a substantial number of MC95Bs. With reinforcements, the combined galactic forces and the Resistance launched an assault on the Final Order, a formidable fleet of over 1,000 planet-killing Xyston-class Star Destroyers. While the two Jedi Rey and Ben Solo battled the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious on the surface at the Sith Citadel, Darth Sidious absorbed Force power from the Force dyad connecting Rey and Solo, subsequently unleashing a powerful surge of Force lightning upon the galactic fleet, rendering all the ships inoperable.

Once Rey regained her strength and faced Sidious again, the lightning ceased, and the fleet regained its advantage. Darth Sidious was ultimately destroyed by his own power after Rey redirected his lightning, resulting in his demise. The remaining Sith Eternal forces on Exegol were eradicated, and a uprising against the First Order erupted throughout the galaxy.

Behind the scenes

The MC95B was one of the many new ship models created by ILM for Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.

The MC95B made its debut in Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, the final chapter of the Star Wars saga and the sequel trilogy. James Clyne, an art designer at Lucasfilm, created the Star Cruiser when post-production required additional ships for the citizens' fleet. James Clyne mentioned in a social media post that the ship is a variation of the MC95 Mon Calamari cruiser. The MC95A Star Cruiser, MC95C Star Cruiser, MC95D Star Cruiser, and the MC95E Star Cruiser were originally named "Mon Calamari Cruiser Variations A," "Mon Calamari Cruiser Variations C," "Mon Calamari Cruiser Variations D," "Mon Calamari Cruiser Variations E," which correspond to their designations. Similarly, this Star Cruiser is named "Mon Calamari Cruiser Variations B."
