Mereel Skirata

Mereel Skirata, previously identified as Null-7 or N-7, but more commonly known as Mereel, achieved the rank of lieutenant and stood as one of the six Null-class Advanced Recon Commandos engineered for service within the Grand Army of the Republic. His name was a tribute to Jaster Mereel, the former Mandalore who mentored Jango Fett.

Biography

Early life

At just two years of age chronologically, he, along with his Null brethren, faced scrutiny from Kaminoan scientist Orun Wa, bounty hunter Jango Fett, and Sergeant Kal Skirata during an evaluation. When the Kaminoans moved to eliminate the Nulls, Mereel swiftly seized Skirata's concealed blaster and passed it to his brother Null-11, known as Ordo, who aimed it directly at Orun Wa. Skirata successfully retrieved the weapon and was subsequently placed in command of the Nulls, recognized as the only individual capable of managing them. Following this event, Kal Skirata raised the Nulls as his own sons.

Clone Wars

Despite serving the GAR, or Grand Army of the Republic, Mereel and the other Null-class ARCs were perpetually seeking information regarding the whereabouts of the Kaminoan scientist Ko Sai so that, together with Kal Skirata, they could determine how to halt the accelerated aging of the clones.

Mereel took part in the black op in 21 BBY, orchestrated by Skirata, to dismantle the Separatist terrorist networks operating on Coruscant, working alongside his brother Ordo, Walon Vau, Delta Squad, Omega Squad, Etain Tur-Mukan, and Bardan Jusik.

A few months later, he participated in an unsanctioned mission to Kamino. Dressed as a standard clone trooper, he gained access to the Tipoca City central computer system, seeking any data related to Ko Sai. While he didn't locate her, he did manage to download portions of a clandestine conversation between Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and Prime Minister Lama Su, which revealed the existence of secret cloning facilities on Coruscant and the Republic's intention to cease ordering future clone batches from Kamino.

As the pursuit of Ko Sai intensified, Mereel's unwavering patience ultimately proved successful, resulting in the capture of the Kaminoan scientist. Recalling unpleasant memories of her, Mereel reintroduced himself to Ko Sai using his nerf prod, prompting Kal Skirata's concern that Mereel might lose control. Among all the Nulls, Mereel had been known as the most carefree and charming, and it was these very qualities that led Kal to select him for this sensitive aspect of the mission.

Later, Mereel collaborated with Etain to compel Ko Sai to develop a cure for the clones' accelerated aging, while simultaneously becoming a proficient expert in genetics. When Ko Sai ultimately reached her breaking point and committed suicide, Mereel gathered his brothers to "prepare" her body for transport. Mereel's signature smile, a sign that he didn't have a care in the galaxy, remained unwavering.

Post–Clone Wars

Soon after Order 66 was executed, Mereel and the remaining Nulls deserted and established new lives on Mandalore. When Kal nearly collapsed upon seeing Tallisibeth Enwandung-Esterhazy (nicknamed Scout), due to her resemblance to Etain, Mereel assisted Kal back into their residence. Mereel also developed a rapport with Kina Ha, the Kaminoan Jedi, which was remarkable given his deep-seated hatred for all Kaminoans.

Similar to the other Nulls, Mereel expressed his disgust at the Empire's deployment of the virus FG36 on Gibad, and he collaborated with them to conceal themselves in the water reservoir or the fuel tank of Nyreen Vollen's ship, Cornucopia, to evade Imperial inspection after they rescued Darman Skirata and Niner Skirata from Coruscant.

Personality and traits

Mereel was known as the most "charming, entertaining, and sociable" of the Nulls, and he adapted relatively well to life beyond Kamino. As a ladies' man, his romantic relationships tended to be fleeting and insignificant. Under his influence, Corr also adopted a similar demeanor.

Mereel possessed the ability to navigate most social situations with ease. He once "held court" within the Coruscant Security Force Staff and Social club, where he entertained both commandos and CSF officers by reciting swear words in various languages. He often reacted to situations with greater composure than his brother Ordo and possessed a keen sense of humor, frequently engaging in jokes and witty remarks.

Mereel was often described as a "daredevil lunatic," a characteristic that frequently caused anxiety for his "father" and brothers. He actively sought out thrills, intentionally pushing boundaries in everything from negotiations with technicians to piloting and rapid-roping. Kal observed that Mereel appeared to feel compelled to take risks and excel, possibly to distinguish himself from Ordo's shadow.

He also shared several traits with his Null brothers. He had a small appetite and a fondness for sweets, which Skirata speculated might be attributed to his accelerated maturation and the metabolic demands of his rapid aging. Due to genetic manipulations by the Kaminoans, Mereel and the other Nulls exhibited intense loyalty—they were either willing to die for you or ensure your demise. Like his brothers, Mereel's loyalty was reserved solely for Kal Skirata and his family.

The Kaminoans altered the Nulls' genes, granting Mereel and his brothers perfect memories. This proved invaluable during Mereel's work, enabling him to memorize codes, manuals, and other critical information. These capabilities eventually led to his specialization in slicing and genetics. However, the same genetic manipulation, coupled with his traumatic childhood, instilled in Mereel and the other Nulls a profound and unwavering hatred for Kaminoans.

Mereel found pleasure in piloting Gi'ka, a Wavechaser submersible acquired on Dorumaa. He favored heavy weapons manufactured by Merr-Sonn; his preferred weapons were the Z-6 rotary blaster cannon and the reciprocating quad blaster.
