In the year 9 BBY, Cal Kestis, a Jedi Knight, embarked on a mission to the Central Manse situated on the Outer Rim Territories planet Koboh. He sought answers regarding Dagan Gera, a fallen Jedi Knight from the High Republic Era, and Gera's pursuit of the planet Tanalorr, which was concealed within the Koboh Abyss. Jedi Master Eno Cordova dispatched Kestis, having discovered in The Archive on the moon Jedha that the Manse served as Gera's refuge. En route, Korej Lim, a bounty hunter employed by the Haxion Brood syndicate, ambushed Kestis, but Kestis prevailed in the ensuing battle. Following this encounter, Caij Vanda, a retired bounty hunter, approached him, requesting assistance in eliminating the bounty hunters converging on Koboh, who posed a threat to both of them.
As Kestis pressed forward with his assignment, he faced and overcame numerous Bedlam Raiders during his travels and acquired a Koboh matter grinder for his droid, BD-1. Kestis eventually arrived at the Manse and its Grand Courtyard, where he was confronted by Tague Louesh, a lightsaber-wielding Bedlam Raider, whom Kestis defeated in combat. Inside the structure, Kestis located an Abyss compass and, through his [psychometry](/article/psychometry], learned that two Jedi had destroyed it to prevent a fallen Gera from using it, but Gera killed them both. After securing the compass, Kestis made the decision to return it to Cordova on Jedha for the Jedi Master's examination.
