The Mizi were a sentient species characterized by their elongated limbs and extended noses. Notably, they possessed a greater resistance to radiation compared to most other species. This made them ideal for transporting hazardous cargo that others couldn't handle. Mizi also preferred to remain anonymous to those they didn't know and maintained a contentious relationship with the Orincans, a species originating from the same region of the galaxy.
Following the [Great Hyperspace Disaster](/article/great_hyperspace_disaster], a number of Mizi found themselves marooned on a derelict abandoned space station when hyperspace travel was suspended across the frontier of the Galactic Republic. Initially, the Mizi were among those who sought to plunder the station, leading to clashes with a similarly stranded group of Orincans. Eventually, the crew and passengers of the transport Vessel persuaded the Mizi, along with other uncooperative groups, to share their resources. After spending several days on the station, restricted hyperspace travel resumed, and the Mizi and Orincans celebrated their shared ordeal before departing.
Mizi universally preferred to keep their names private from strangers. They were capable of speaking Galactic Basic Standard.
During the [High Republic Era](/article/high_republic_era], the Mizi inhabited a region of the galaxy located on the frontier of the Galactic Republic. By this time, they had developed a rivalry with the Orincans, another species from the same area. Their enhanced radiation resistance allowed Mizi starships to transport cargo that other species' vessels couldn't.
In approximately 232 BBY, a Mizi vessel was one of a dozen ships that became stranded in a star system on the frontier due to the Great Hyperspace Disaster, a hyperspace event where debris from the freighter Legacy Run caused the closure of hyperspace lanes throughout the Outer Rim Territories. As a solar flare threatened to erupt from the star within the system, the Mizi ship, along with the others, sought shelter behind an abandoned space station after being warned by the transport Vessel.
The Vessel was the first to dock at the space station, and its crew determined that it was safe for the other ships. The Jedi passengers aboard the Vessel oversaw the arrival, inadvertently positioning the Mizi next to an Orincan ship. Several groups, including the Mizi, intended to loot the station, despite objections from the Jedi and the Vessel crew. The Mizi discovered a set of armor belonging to the Amaxine warriors, the station's original builders, and were later confronted by the Jedi Wayseeker Orla Jareni, retreating when she activated her lightsaber. Jedi Master Cohmac Vitus temporarily halted the looting by levitating in the station's atrium and calling for a ceasefire.
Although the Mizi and other groups ceased their looting attempts, they remained stranded for several days due to the continued closure of hyperspace lanes. They were asked to share their resources for the common good, but the Mizi, among others, initially refused. After Leox Gyasi, the captain of the Vessel, reminded the uncooperative parties of their relatively fortunate situation, the Mizi captain conceded that they were transporting repair parts and offered them to those whose ships had been damaged in hyperspace.
Later, another Mizi volunteered to join an expedition to explore the station's lower rings. The Mizi descended quickly, cutting through vines that had grown from the station's central arboretum. The station's 8-T gardening model droids perceived the group as a threat to the plants and attacked, forcing them to retreat. Despite this incident, the Mizi rejoined the group for a second attempt, determined to claim a share of whatever was found in the lower rings. The second expedition was aborted after the apparent death of Jedi Knight Dez Rydan, and the Mizi hastily returned to his people. Shortly thereafter, hyperspace lanes reopened for limited travel, allowing those stranded on the station to leave. The Mizi and Orincans celebrated together before departing on their respective starships.
The Mizi made their debut in the 2021 novel The High Republic: Into the Dark, penned by Claudia Gray.
