Najra-Va

Najra-Va, a planet characterized by its rocky terrain, existed within the Dassal system located in the Unknown Regions. It was orbited by a moon that was once inhabited. In 34 ABY, the First Order hollowed out Najra-Va, along with other celestial bodies in the system, as a trial run for their Starkiller Base superweapon. Differing from the other celestial bodies, Najra-Va remained largely intact after the tests, although a shaft was bored straight through its center. During an investigation of the First Order's presence, Resistance pilots Kazuda Xiono and Poe Dameron traversed the planet's core shaft.

Description

The Dassal system, home of Najra-Va, was located in the Unknown Regions.

Najra-Va, a terrestrial planet with a rocky surface, orbited by a moon that was once inhabited, was situated in Sector Epsilon 51-3, specifically at grid square H-7 on the Standard Galactic Grid, within the Dassal system of the Unknown Regions. After the First Order militantly cored out the planets of the system, Najra-Va was left with a tunnel running through its diameter, resulting in the extinction of all inhabitants and ecosystems. Despite the absence of matter in its core, a gravity well persisted at the planet's center. Najra-Va revolved around a single sun, which vanished due to the First Order's experiments. The orbit of its single moon was also likely affected by the testing.

History

During the Cold War era between the First Order and the New Republic-backed Resistance, the planets and celestial bodies of the Dassal system were within the First Order's Sector Epsilon 51-3. These bodies were hollowed out by the First Order as tests for the Starkiller Base superweapon, which also led to the disappearance of the system's sun. Unlike other bodies that shattered, Najra-Va remained largely intact after the First Order's third attempt. The massive hole mined through its core was likely due to a reduced power level during testing to calculate Starkiller Base's limits.

The planet after having its core drilled through by the First Order

After obtaining intelligence from the First Order in 34 ABY, Kazuda Xiono, a Resistance spy, discovered their activities in the Dassal system. He informed Poe Dameron, and the two pilots then investigated the system. They found the cored and broken celestial bodies, encountered Najra-Va, and flew through its core. The pilots nearly crashed their starships due to the planet's intact gravity well, but they managed to escape through the other side, landing on its moon. Once a probe droid alerted the First Order to their presence, Dameron and Xiono were pursued back into Najra-Va's core by TIE fighters led by Major Elrik Vonreg. The Resistance pilots used the gravity well to their advantage, causing the enemy fighters to crash, forcing Vonreg to retreat and allowing the pair to escape.

Inhabitants

The Dassal system, including Najra-Va, was once teeming with life. However, the First Order's experiments on the system resulted in the death of all of Najra-Va's inhabitants.

Behind the scenes

Concept art of the planet's core shaft

Najra-Va made its debut in "The Core Problem," the seventeenth episode of the first season of Star Wars Resistance, an animated television series, which aired on February 17, 2019. A shot featuring Najra-Va was included in the show's mid-season trailer, uploaded to YouTube on January 9 of that year. Jim Moore created concept artwork for the planet's core shaft on August 28, 2017. The StarWars.com Databank entry for the Dassal system identified the planet's name. While some sources refer to Najra-Va as a planetoid, others call it a planet. This article aligns with the majority of newer sources and considers Najra-Va a planet, resolving the contradiction.
